FULCI is an Italian Deathgrind Metal Band formed in 2008. This is a band that takes influences from such greats as CARCASS, and REPULSION; and their sound is characterized by a combination of Extreme Metal styles, like the Death Metal and Grindcore styles evident in their latest album, “Duck Face Killings”. The album whose lyrics follow FULCI’S common theme of Horror Movies, Gore, and Violence, got its name from the 1979 Horror Flick, “The New York Ripper”. In the movie, a psychotic killer wears a yellow raincoat and makes duck-like sounds while stalking and killing his victims. The band’s name itself is a nod to the Horror Movie Scene, being named after Italian Horror Icon, Lucio Fulci. FULCI originates from Palermo, Italy; a place with a vibrant and active Metal Scene. Sicilian culture has a rich history of folklore and mythology, which touches of it may have found its way into the band's lyrics. Palermo is a city with a long-standing history of musical traditions, including traditional Sicilian Folk Music, as well as the growing Metal and Hard Rock Community. “Duck Face Killings” was released on August 9, 2024, and lyrically is written in the format of a good Horror Movie in Concept Album format. It tells a story, a grim a horrific one; perfect for release just before Halloween.  

“Vile Butchery” - This song dives right into the captivating plot line that makes this a Concept Album by playing bits straight from the movie, “The New York Ripper”, which was directed by Lucio Fulci. The choice to start the album out with pieces from the movie sets the tone of Horror that stays throughout the album. Musically, “Vile Butchery” is intense and aggressive, with fast and heavy guitar riffs and extreme drum beats. “Fucked With a Broken Bottle” - This is fast-paced and extreme, with guttural vocals and aggressive instrumentation. The title and lyrics are intended to be shocking and horrifying, painting a graphic mental picture in the listener’s mind. Musically, this song features intense guitar riffs, heavy drumming, and brutal vocals; with plenty moments of technical proficiency and virtuosic musicianship. “Morbid Lust” - This song is characterized by its intense, relentless pace, with fast and brutal instrumentation and guttural vocals. The lyrics deal with themes of violence and depravity. Musically, this song has fast drumming and aggressive guitar riffs, creating a relentless and intense atmosphere that does not allow you a moment to breathe. The vocals are extreme and brutal, adding to the overall sense of violence and chaos. There is touches of Melodeath throughout this track as well. 

“Knife” - The intro to this song is deceptively calm, almost eerily so; yet the rap to follow in the beginning of the song adds some uniqueness to it. While the haunting guitar melody continues, it leaves the listener with a dichotomy of emotions. Yet, the themes of violence and bloodshed continue to leave the listener horrified, yet captivated. “Stabbed, Gutted, and Loved” - This violent and intense track has a mindfuck of a name, and this dingy feeling follows you throughout the song. Like the filth of a seedy back alley, the grime slams you in the face. The graphic and explicit lyrics are written shockingly and provocatively, yet musically the sound is fast-paced and aggressive, heavy guitar riffs and with an intense drum beat. “Il miele del diavolo” - The title translates to “Honey of the Devil” for this haunting song with its jazzy intervals. This song deals in themes of violence and malevolence, and is a deftly combined combo of haunting guitar and a Saxaphone. Which adds an unexpected element of contrast and atmosphere to the otherwise aggressive and heavy sound.
