When I received the package containing this album, I was pretty excited for what I was going to hear. The artwork is dark, paganish and naturelike. I have never listened to the band before, so I was really surprised about the kind of music H.L.H Swärd makes. He have recently released its newest album "Faþir" and thats what we are going to talk about. The opening track from the album is "Jakten" and it starts with a very sweet and soft sound that grows and turns into a higher one as the music slowly grows in you. The percussion is really good and shamanic and the vocals are deep and the lines from the stanzas are pretty good.
"Yggdrasil" is the tree of life, axis of world and what linked the nine worlds in the Norse Paganism. The song starts with a soft orchestra that will definetely transport you to the woods and the percussion is hypnotizing as it grows inside of you. The vocals are still low tone here, but a little bit higher than the previous song. "Finnmarken" starts out with the leading percussion and very beautiful orchestral sound that completes the ambiance bringing dynamic to the atmosphere. Its an instrumental song where you will be on a different state of mind if you close your eyes and just go with the song.
"Fostersonen" starts out the same way the previous one did, with a soft orchestra and the percussion that hits constantly and grows slowly. The vocals are pretty deep here and the lines from the stanzas are memorable. The song turns into something epic when another parts of orchestras are added and that's great. Muninn" means mind or memory and its one of the crows that Odin has. Its an instrumental song, with nothing much but orchestral sounds and no percussion. Its definitely a song that will make you think.
"Hej, jag vet mig väntar" starts out with a orchestral sound that grows slowly and progressively. The percussion is added a little bit after the music has already started and some low tone orchestral comes in as well, creating the right ambiance for the vocals that hits. Its a great song. "Hemkomst" is the song that closes the album and it starts out with the percussion and orchestra sounds. There's something really cool on the vocal work and lines as well. Its a great song to end a masterpiece.
FORNDOM has written and released a great Nordic Folk/Ambient album. There are tons of Nordic elements, good percussion and the orchestral parts were really well written and recorded as well. The vocals are deep and will definitely transport you to the woods and to your inner self. Great stuff.
