FETID are a death metal band from Seattle, Washington formed in 2016 and have now released their debut album as a follow up to their well received 2016 demo "Sentient Pile of Amorphous Rot". While the album may appear more as an EP due to the number of tracks on offer, the band have confirmed that this is indeed a full album and I would agree considering that the total time of the album is around 32 minutes which is longer than most albums I review nowadays.

The band appear to be going for a slam death metal style but there are definitely elements of doom metal and classic death metal included here as well. The album kicks off with "Reeking Within" with the band seemingly starting off with a statement of taking no prisoners with their heavy as hell sound and this track is a great introduction for the experience. The doom metal influences are showing here as the riffs are just dripping with atmosphere as the production is on point with making the sound come across as dingy and teeming with filth, absolutely adding to the full effect. The time changes with the instrumental effects keep the listener guessing as to what's coming

After a good, but slightly forgettable follow up in "Cranial Liquescent", we do have another album highlight in "Consumed Periphery" which is the shortest song on the album at 04:56 and the one I would recommend you check out if you want to get a feel for the band or would rather avoid the longer tracks. It's fast paced, a headbanger for sure, and there were damn impressive drumming moments on display here.

"Dripping Sub-Tepidity" is another fine track on offer with some of the best guitar work the album has offered up to this point which leads us to the closing and best track on the album "Draped in What Was" which starts off very differently to the other tracks with a techno-like intro, similar to something you might hear in a 1980s horror movie. I like it as it helps the album stand out from the rest and shows that the band can surprise us with a different offering. It lasts almost two minutes before the band goes back to destroying my poor, unsuspecting eardrums in the best way possible. I didn't think a sound like this could stay interesting for more than eight minutes but the band thankfully proved me wrong as I just didn't want this track to end. Sadly it did though and I was left craving more of this putrid noise.

I had a blast listening to this album and its one I'd highly recommend. No bad tracks here, the sound stays fresh throughout and you're left wanting to hear more of what this band can offer and I honestly can't wait myself. If you like your sickening, reeking of dirt death metal then this one is definitely for you.
