Parakosm
Feradur
FERADUR are a Melodic Death Metal Band from Luxemburg, which I must admit does not strike me of being a hotbed of Metal of any particular flavor. Formed in 2006 and to date have since their first 3 song disc in 06, produced that and two full length albums and this, their latest EP, "Paraksom", all wrapped up in a very nice cover it has to be said.
The set starts off in a muted, melonconic way with "Midas (Materia Prima)", picking up the pace as the track goes on, and whilst it gets going, it doesn't get ME going I'm afraid. Whilst there is some decent guitar in there, especially the MAIDEN-like twin fret work, and the grunting vocals are by far not the worse of their kind, it just isn't grabbing me the way it should for an opening track. "Crest Of Betrayal", has more pace and musically is much better, a faster track, at least at its start, but even when it does slow down, it is for some more of that great guitar work. Vocally not bad. I am not the biggest fan of this style of "singing", but this is palatable, and not too jarring. Good track
However "Saviours" is different gravy. Barreling along like an old school metal song from a MAIDEN cast-off. Still cannot totally warm to the vocals, though not bad, this would have been a totally different, classic, song with "clean" vocals in my opinion. Another good one. "Tetsuo" gallops along like its predecessor, more Thrashy in delivery, again great guitar interplay, and either I'm warming to the vocals or they actually work n this one. The only gripe is the drum sound of the little drum interlude, although I cannot put my finger on it, I didn't like it, it sounded weird.
Which brings us to the final track on this EP "Host Of The Nightmare". After a suitably shlock-horror vocal intro, I'm afraid we finish how we started. A stuttering pace and vocally we are back to the bad ways. I am sure it is done to represent the Nightmare aspects and a decent into madness, but for me it is simply all over the place without coherence.
All in all I'm afraid I could not warm to this, it didn't catch my ears enough to make me want to dig deeper. Sorry FERADUR you are not for me.
