FECULENT are a death metal band from Brisbane, Australia. Having only formed in 2019 the band are fairly new to the scene however it's members are not as vocalist MB is involved in bands such as CONTAMINATED, SHACKLΣS and CARCINOID, drummer BA has been behind the kit for CONSUMED, DESCENT and NECROSEPTIC along with being a guitarist for RESIN TOMB and SIBERIAN HELL SOUNDS, he even plays the role of every member of the band SNORLAX, while guitarist KD is involved in bands like IDLE RUIN and WHEN DEATH REPLACES LIFE where he plays all roles. The band has a lot of experience to bring to their debut release as FECULENT titled "The Grotesque Arena" which was released via Brilliant Emperor Records in March 2021.

This EP has not one, but two title tracks on it, the opening track titled "The Grotesque Arena: Upon Splintered Bone" as well as the closing track "The Grotesque Arena II: A Perverse Spectical". As it's not often you see more then one title track on any release, I thought it was and interesting and unique idea.

The opening track "The Grotesque Arena: Upon Splintered Bone" is the first track listeners will hear from the band as this is there debut release, it has an almost wind like sounding intro which lasts about thirty seconds but from then on it's clear that the band started as they meant to go on as this track is full of raw energy and intensity and that energy was matched, if not exceeded by the tracks that followed it.

The EP's final track, and second title track "The Grotesque Arena II: A Perverse Spectical" is the perfect way to end off the EP as it keeps the intensity from the prior tracks but slowly lowers it down as it comes to an end rather then going from 100 to 0 as other tracks had done as they just stopped on a dime and ended.

Having listened to this EP in it's entirety I can say that fans of death metal will definitely enjoy it, and this band is definitely one to keep an eye on as they grow and progress.
