Vento Divino
Feary Tales

FEARY TALES hailing from Torino, Italy were formed in 2006. The play a mixture of modern Metal and extreme Metal and released so far one EP and two full-length albums. Their third album “Vento Divino” has a length of about 39 minutes. The album was released via Italian Power and progressive Metal specialists Underground Symphony. The album starts with the atmospheric intro “Intro: Volcano”. “La Ginestra” is mainly a mid-tempo track with a few switches in tempo and rhythm. The track starts with a slow build-up, but after it comes to life, the guitar riffing is powerful at times. The vocals are mainly clean vocals, and they vary around the medium end of the vocal range with distinct tonal shifts in either direction. Altogether, the track lacks intensity, even though a couple of blast-beat driven crushing parts were included. While most album tracks are performed in Italian, “LightBlind” comes with English vocals. It is a slow track for most of the time, with some ballad-esque features during the guitar-driven build-up at the early stage of the track and during the lead guitar solo. The melodies are dark with a bit of melancholy added at times. The guitar riffing is very powerful. The vocals are pre-dominantly cleans. “LightBlind” is one of the album highlights. The title track is mainly played at mid-tempo. The melodies are grim and melancholic throughout the track. The vocals are equally balanced between cleans and growls. The break delivers an extended lead guitar solo, full of melancholy. “Vento Divino” was released as lyric video, and the YouTube link is provided below.
“(The Feary Tale Of) RoXXXanne” is a very own cover version of the THE POLICE classic “Roxanne”. While most of the cover is an overly melancholic version of the original including another extended lead guitar solo, there are also some short, unexpected crushing parts at blistering pace. “In Tinta Caligine” continues with characteristic album sound. It is a mid-tempo track mainly, with the verse parts being faster compared to the chorus parts. The verse parts include a few growls and a few blast-beats, while the chorus parts are clean vocals with a couple of screams. “La Luminosa Notte Dell’Anima” is a track switching between mid-tempo and measured tempo. The guitar riffing is powerful. The melodies are dark, and they have some traces of melancholy, in particular during the break and the lead guitar solo. The vocals are mainly clean with only a couple of screams in between.
“Come Inside” is a fast and crushing track for most of the time, driven by the blast-beats and devastating guitar riffing. The vocals are pre-dominantly growls, which vary around the medium end of the guttural range. The break slows down to mid-tempo with some progressive elements in the guitar riffing and a few VOIVOD inspirations from the 80s. “Come Inside” is another album highlight. “AdventComes” is one of the darker tracks on the album. The first part is played at measured tempo with the characteristic mixture of clean and growling vocals put into a grim melodic framework, full of melancholy. The remaining part of the track leans towards mid-tempo and picks up the dark melodies of the opening. The track ends with another short crushing delivery of punishing guitar riffs and the growls. The album ends with the short outro “Outro: Thunder & Blood Rain”.
FEARY TALES deliver an album that leaves me with mixed feelings. “Vento Divino” is a mixture of everything ranging from traditional Heavy Metal, melodic Death Metal, modern Metal, and progressive Metal elements. At times, there were too many different styles added to the tracks, and I felt a little bit lost. The melodies were sometimes repetitive, however, almost every track had its moments. The album was well produced. “Vento Divino” is an album with a very specific and characteristic sound and surely will have its share of fans.
