Nälkäiset aaveet
Fallath

From Bandcamp, "Nälkäiset aaveet" is a testament to the thirst that shapes worlds and passes from one form to another without release. At the same time it's the picture of the world where forests are eating the corpses and hunger for power is destroying the soil. FALLATH performs timeless Finnish Black Metal." The album has nine songs, and "Alkusoitto" is first; a short instrumental lead in to "Ilosanoma." This song sounds like a bomb rumbling from a short fuse milliseconds before detonation. The vocals are mostly shouted, and they keep the sound dark, deep, and aggressive. "Tuhon säkeet" is equally as fast and intense, and you can use your favorite euphemism here to describe that. It's like there's an intensity control knob in the studio and they turned theirs up to nine.
"Marttyyrien vainiot" has a "Black 'N Roll" type of riff to it, where there is a dirty, discernable riff that you might get in Hard Rock, but when the vocals are added, you get that Black Metal taste on the back of your tongue. "Tumman metsän laulu" actually has some melody, believe it or not. It's somber, but it's there. The vocals are both harsh and clean, and it sticks out as a memorable song on the album. "Saatanan mustat nahkasiivet" has a funky bass like, almost like something out of the swaps of Louisiana, and the pacing quickens from the opening notes. Drums roll at lightning speed, and vocals are shouted to the skies above. "Vaskisoturi" is another short song, and correct me if I'm wrong, but it does have a Punk feeling to it. It fast, raucous, and has that undeniable Punk sound.
The title track is last, and is just under eight minutes. The opening sequence is a bit strange…it's like the band are practicing scales. The vocal shouts are unmistakable however, as the song transitions to darkness. The music is rooted in the traditions of the Black Metal genre for the most part, but instead of tortured screams that often come, we have shouts instead. They are both effective at pushing the aggression deeper, but the later presents at least some diversity in sound. They also experiment with some other sounds that aren't traditional to Black Metal, and I say bravo to their spirit for this.
