Extol - The Blueprint Dives album cover

Extol is a fucking crazy Norwegian band whose style and musical proposition is quite unique and surely tasteful but sometimes hard to comprehend. In other words you will find in them elements from bands in the likes of Celtic Frost, Samael, Coroner but also Porcupine Tree, Radiohead and Muse. Without doubt The Blueprint Dives is a truly unique experimental proposition for demanding listeners.
From their first song, Gloriana, they are willing to strongly experiment with sounds, emotions, songwriting tactics - almost everything! There is a diffuse psychedelic type atmosphere spread all around here! Pearl is also a very nice catchy song with very sentimental and easy to remember and a whistle-along chorus. Peter Espevoll's voice is quite unique and has a real sweet and warm touch from time to time. It is not really easy for a typical heavy metaller to absorb Extol's truth and dig into them. Their experimental attitude combined with a more sophisticated, modern approach of songwriting will be a moderate obstacle in order to understand their meaning.
Extol really strive to sound progressive and unique combining a huge variety of influences on the one hand - but on the other hand they sometimes try to sound more addicted to the commands of the modern music industry. In other words, they manage to balance between commercial approach and rough Rock attitude.
You must also stay tuned in order to watch their Pearl video, which will be played on Headbanger's Ball! Highlights of this album can be considered - amongst others - the following: Gloriana, Soul Deprived, Pearl, Lost in Dismay and Essence.
The production is very clear and you can hear all the instruments very easily. If you are a Radiohead type of fan you must definitely check out Extol in order to rediscover your 'rough side'. If you consider yourself to be a progressive / experimentalist and open minded listener, you must certainly dig into them. Their experimental way of playing and composing songs will definitely appeal to ya! See you in the next blue dive!
