EVERTURE is a Modern Melodic Metal band formed in Finland in 2015. Lead vocalist Jere filled the ranks in the summer of2017 and their first demo "For Tomorrow" was released soon after. out soon after. Having caught some attention via the demo, the band started playing gigs and received overwhelmingly positive feedback thus making it clear, this band was meant to be. Now after three releases and 400k streams in Spotify, the band released their debut album "Emerge" in March of 2021. The album contains ten tracks.

"In Between" leads off the album. It begins with a heavy, punishing sound and a scream. The vocals are clean at first, but with a raspy edge. Melodies about in the chorus. A guitar solo marks just a bit of darkness before the chorus returns again. "For Tomorrow" opens with some harmonized lead guitars over a bed of heavy rhythms. Jere has a great voice, alternating between clean and harsh vocals. It definitely has a catchy feel to it and is easily assimilated. "Undersky" opens with a slower pace, with super low and heavy guitars. Clean vocals lead, then alternate with harsh vocals. Again, the chorus is the place where the melodies shine.

"The River Flows" begins with tense guitar tones and clean vocals. When the main riff drops, it hits hard, and the pacing speeds up. Some harsh vocals mix in at times. There is a heavy breakdown following the second chorus and then a third chorus takes us to completion, ending with charming piano notes. "Promises" is a slower song, opening with piano notes and the lamenting vocals of Jere. This song is very emotive, especially in the vocal performance. "Ivory Tower" opens with a charge of guitars, bass, and drums, followed by a blood-curdling scream. The clean vocals have a gravelly edge again, as the guitars drop big accents throughout the song. "The Unfortunate End" begins with more of those heavy guitar accents. Again, the melody shines in the chorus. A short guitar solo leads to the final chorus.

"White Lies, Black Skies" sounds similar to other songs on the album. This is a trap that many young bands fall into...they need to find a way to diversify their sound. The heavy passages are absolutely raging, but the flirtatious vocals need some more punch behind them. "My 52 Shades" opens with soft, pensive tones, with melancholy vocals. It picks up with a weighted charge of guitars, moving purposefully. "Closure" is the closing track. It opens with a nice melody that breathes a bit. The guitars hold much of the heaviness here but I really like the melodies they present. This might be the best song on the album.

Though this isn't something that you haven't heard before, it's honest and genuine, and you can tell it comes from the band's heart. As I mentioned earlier, some of the tracks run together however, and the band could improve on this for their next album. This would help to separate them from many of their peers out there playing in the same style. Overall, pretty good for their debut album.
