Enzo and the Glory Ensemble - In the Name of the World Spirit album cover

ENZO AND THE GLORY ENSEMBLE are a Symphonic Progressive Christian Metal band out of Gragnano, Italy. This is the last album of the In the Name trilogy. They are pretty much a one man band, the band is the brainchild of Enzo Donnarumma. He does pretty much everything along with a number of guest musicians, this band is pretty much his baby no less.

The first single of the album is ''Try to Put in Pit the Fear'' which I have absolutely no idea what that means! I know one thing you have the presence of one of the very best Metal vocalists of the last 2 decades that lends his voice to this song, the incomparable Kobi Farhi from ORPHANED LAND. Kobi does a fine job like he always does when he guest stars on other bands albums (like the new AETERNAM album which is freakin' outstanding!!). He makes this song his own and being that the band is very religion based, I felt like he really belonged on this song.

The album is quite upbeat, you have the presence of olden instruments and chants from around the world. The ethnic beats are ever present and do add a nice touch to the songs. This album was unlike anything I have heard these last few years. It is quite a departure from what I usually listen on a regular basis, they really broaden horizons with their music. I felt the album was a bit chaotic and it felt really disorganized.

You have so much talented guest musicians like Ralf Scheepers from PRIMAL FEAR, Marty Friedman, Mark Zonder from FATES WARNING amongst countless others and I felt a lot of these guest spots were lost in the shuffle. I felt the guests could have used to better effect and maybe not invite like 15 artists for your album and just concentrate on a few artists to make this album really shine.

The production was a major miss for me, I felt the instruments really drowned the singer on most of the songs. I was trying to hear what he was singing and I couldn't because the rest of the instruments were way too loud including the first single. You can also say that the singers don't sing too clearly either. I had trouble discerning the words most of the time and I truly hate that when it happens. I usually want to feel the words when I listen to something but this missed the mark rather handily.

The songs are extremely powerful and the Symphonic Metal elements are rather nice but the album does lack the substance and character I wanted to have beforehand. I guess I may had high hopes at the beginning and when I saw that Kobi Farhi was on the first single, I was really excited but after that I felt the album was stagnant at best. The songs have great meaning and sound great but it's nothing too memorable in my case.

I know a lot of people will not agree with what I wrote but I digress. It's a nice album and really something quite different for the genre but it's missing the it factor to make it really stand out on it's own.
