Sverige, your bands just never seem to disappoint me.
Any time I have reviewed an album or EP birthed by a Swedish Metal band I have always walked away impressed. Not always floored mind you, but always impressed. This EP created by the ghosts of Gravehammer, now known as ENSNARED, is a solid piece of Metal handy work that needs to be heard in order to be appreciated. Let the review begin.
The first song, "Adorations" opens with a fiery barrage of guitar riffs that are aimed right at your skull. Vocals are mid-range in tone and snarly but lack any screams, growls, or clean work. Half way through the song we are treated to a wicked rolling break with the rhythm work cooling off a bit and morphing into a consistent grind. Not a moment later it's back to business as A.J and H.K's riffage recovers its momentum to speed things back up. Next up is With Roots Below with its wickedly contrasting guitar leads and neck snapping bass/drum work. It's a great standard death metal song, but "With Roots Below" really hits its hellish stride at the end where your ears are assaulted by balls out rhythm work and vocal snarls pulled straight from hell itself. Fucking brutal.
"Kimiya Ye Al Molekhat" is next on the list. Its intro is intricate and mesmerizing, as though it's the sound track to some ritual sacrifice. You sit, ever so still, trying to anticipate the songs next move until H.K and A.J revive their blistering riffs and throat punch you back to reality. J.K's drum work is intense as it pushes the limits of how much damage a kit can take. From there we go to "Field of Resurrection", a fun little tune which is so heavy that it is sure to cause soft tissue damage somewhere on your body. J.K's drums are a bit of a focal point in this song as much of the tone and drive lends itself to their ferocious work. The vocals also have their shine moments with a few more well placed growls to round everything out.
Last but not least is "Baneful Blood", another high energy, well executed song that allows this EP to end just as brutally as it started. Vocals and rhythm work are just as strong as in Adorations with a guitar solo thrown in to give it more bite. Much credit is due to A.E for his exceptional bass work on all of these tracks. This album is what old school death metal is about.
Well recorded, solidly played, and leaves the listener feeling violated. In a good way. I'll leave whatever defines being violated in a good way up to you my dear reader. For a rating I would say 7 out 10. Stay well, and live free my friends! Cheers!
