From Wellington, New Zealand, END BOSS has released their first full length album entitled They Seek My Head in April of 2022. They put out a single in 2019 called "Feral". In 2020 Heart of the Sky was a two song EP and now this stoner rock quartet are back and ready to take over the world starting with Wellington.

The album opens up with the punchy and catchy track "Heart of the Sickle". This is more towards the hard rock with characteristics of Stoner and Doom hanging over it with some catchy guitar hooks. The song is intensified with the pounding drum work and rumbling bass that kick the song up a notch for sure. The next track "Punished" features vocals that are echoey and with a bit of chanting effect that works well over top of the aggressive guitars. The slow and sluggish guitars dominate the next track "Becomes the Gold". The vocals help open the song up, as the grungy guitar carries through for the better part of the song. In some of the songs you can catch a hint of early 90's grunge that transforms itself towards a heavier and darker sound.

The band does a good job of building the songs up with the chunky riffs and using E.J.'s vocals to break through and uplift the song. This is shown in the previous track as well as "Coveret". The track "Nail & Tooth" is a faster paced tune with driving drums as the guitars follow suit, creating a catchy and more in your face effect that can be a pleasant change of pace when it comes to the stoner/doom genre. The album caps off with the titled track "They Seek My Head" as the opening riff really dictates the band and the album very well with a sluggish muting riff while the vocals carry smoothly over the top. The vocals are not overpowering but more of casting a shadow over the drums and riffs.

The album is a solid release that brings the Stoner and Doom element to the forefront of New Zealand's music scene. The sound as whole is done well and the production and mixing sounds great with everything binding together to create a wall of sound. For a first release from the band, it should receive good reviews as it is pretty easy to listen to without becoming repetitive and the songs getting lost within each other.
