Electric Mary - Down To The Bone album cover

ELECTRIC MARY? Weird name but I guess it is kind of indicative for what the band plays. Something rocking for sure. Hard Rock, Stoner? Who knows? Oh, I almost forgot! I know, I just have to press the play button and everything will start to clear...

Hmmm, an Australian act began a few years ago, in 2003 to be more precise, after Rusty's encounter with studio manager Mary Campbell and a visit to Jimi Hendrix's Electric Lady Studios. Six years later we have the - if I am not mistaken - debut album of this band through the UK label Powerage Records.

The Aussie quintet is exactly what I thought I would face, a talented hard rocking act with passionate music and a really honest sound. The riffing is groovy and catchy as fuck, with the help of the band's great rhythm section of course, Rusty's voice is incredible and the songs are great rocking tunes that will make you bang your head for sure! I am not saying that it is one of the top releases for 2009, neither an album that will change the history of music, but it is an honest release by a band that is not trying to copy AC/DC or LED ZEPPELIN. They may be based on the 60's-70's Hard Rock scene, but they have worked and developed their own sound, a sound that is more something like a 21st century Hard Rock rather than a raped 70's Rock music.

Without being something amazing, but more for being something powerful and catchy, I could put these guys next to BLACK STONE CHERRY. These two bands seem the more capable ones to represent the somehow lost Rock sound. Keep up the good work guys!
