Corrupt Translation Machine

Dwellers

The songs are simple, but the deep level of emotion is not something so easily accomplished. At times, it makes me yearn for something more…maybe even something better than I have. At other times, it makes me a bit sad to settle for what I have, which is my truth. Maybe through, it’s not so bad? As the album fades away, I make a vow that I will box that feeling of longing and throw away the key.

From Bandcamp, “Atmospheric rock and roll with disciplines in the heavy, Americana, blues and psychedelic. Purveyors of the slow burn. In the context of the album, the “Corrupt Translation Machine” is the human being. These songs are mostly about impermanence, addiction, loss, love, insanity, and trying to learn from the mistakes we make due to deluded perception.” The album has ten songs, and “Headlines” is first. It has smooth, melodic tones, that reminds me of a quiet night of warmth in a secluded place…peaceful, but a little unsettling at the same time. “Spiral Vision” has a slower pace with a bit of a groovy attitude. It’s uncanny how the band moves through phases of darkness and light at the same time.

“Old Ways” has sad, sultry tones…almost like what someone who has aged might look back on fondly…the “old ways” always strike a sentimental chord. It’s a blues based song with some nice lead guitar breaks as well. “Inside Infinity” takes just a bit to kick into gear, and it’s a smooth ride into fifth where the road stretches out and there is no more shifting needed. There are some psychedelic threads weaved into the song also, and even an impending sense of lingering. “The Maze” has trippy, spacy sounds, and the image that comes to mind is a continuous line of colors that change with each new cycle. “The Sermon” has a more straightforward sound of blues and going through the humdrum of life.

“Marigold (Heart of Stone)” has slow and somber tones, and trying to crack a heart of stone is an exercise in futility, yet something that we have all tried at one point or another in life. “Made (Psych Ward Mix)” closes the album, and it brings everything together into a final sigh. It might be a sigh of regret, or perhaps a sign of relief. As a listener, you get to decide.
