Cycles of Asphodel
Dvne

In March 2021, DVNE released their seminal second album "Etemen Ænka" which was hailed by fans and press alike around the globe. Despite the global pandemic, the band managed to play two successful European tours. For the first anniversary of "Etemen Ænka," the band decided to set up a special live performance including new takes on tracks featuring on the album which includes Lissa Robertson on vocals and violin. The album contains four tracks.
"Weighing of the Heart" opens the album. The short into features mostly keyboards and some ominous tones in the background. "Omega Severer" begins with smooth and soft tones. The vocals are clean and emotive at first, followed by heavier tones and harsh vocals. The song waxes and wanes between these two styles. The song builds to an early crescendo, with ear piercing vocals. Solemn clean tones follow, tensely. The bass and guitar pars work very well in this song. "Asphodel" is a shorter track, featuring soft keys and female vocals. Clean guitars provide a little sonority along the way of this dreamy, mellow sound, with dire and gloomy tones.
"Satuya" closes the album. Smooth and charming tones open the song, with notable bass guitar work. The riff that follows is despondent and deadly. The band paints a picture of loss. The word translates to "ours." Slowly it builds, with lead guitar and bass coming together. Horrid death vocals enter and the song takes a darker turn. Bass notes thicken and the song is lit on fire. The burn is a slow one, but effective. The fadeout at the end is sinister sounding. Though only really three tracks long, the album gives you insight into a genre bending sound of Progressive Metal, Death Metal, and Doom Metal, with a little Post thrown in. The liberal use of keys in a supporting role provide the necessary texture and glue to the album. I will be watching with excitement what the band does next.
