From Bandcamp, “DUSK is an Industrial Black Metal project formed as an official band in 2016. DUSK is known to incorporate Atmospheric Black Metal into Industrial, full of relenting uncaring pounding blast beats and inhuman growling vocals mixed with modern rhythms such as Darkstep and other electronic influences. They are known to incorporate Industrial with some Atmospheric Black Metal overtones, it approaches a mixture of Hard Bass with dark landscapes, full of relenting uncaring pounding blast beats and slow powerful doom patterns, mixed with inhuman growling vocals and modern electronic influences.
The EP has four songs, and “Dark Shaman” is first. The opening tones are as black as the night sky, and there is a ton of muscle and weight behind them. Once the drums get rolling, they are like a swarm of bees in your ears. In the background, there are creepy effects, and much of the song is electronic/sample based. That doesn’t keep it from sounding awesome though. “Demons” begins with spoken word, and presumably a doctor and patient talking about his “schizophrenic psychosis. The vocals are tortured, and the music weighted and powerful. “What kind of medication are you getting,” the doctor asks. “Drugs,” answers the patient. The demons are what he hears in his mind when all else is silent.
“Directive” has a guitar riff, that mixes in with the electronics very nicely. There are still a lot of harrowing background elements, keeping the song creepy and mysterious. “Raining Blood” is the final cut. More frightening sounds are present, and each time the heavy electronic notes hit, it’s like a bomb going off next to you. Again, the background is full of scary sounds and then comes the familiar riff of SLAYER. I daresay however that I like DUSK’s take on this song. The EP was basically three songs and a cover, but I felt like I got a good hard look into the album. It could have been the accompanying soundtrack to the movie Hostel. That’s how creepy and tortuous it sounded. They crushed the bottom end of each song, and I would be very interested to hear what they release next.
