Drawn by Evil - Another Sin

DRAWN BY EVIL is a seven-year veteran quintet from Germany (formerly known as ignition). Their debut album "Psycho" was released just three years ago and received several positive feedbacks which lead to the creation of the sophomore record, "Another Sin, Another Life". This album is a concept album penned by guitarist Andreas Bieder and was recorded, mixed and mastered by POWERWOLF's Charles Greywolf.

The overall sound is well within the Modern Metal style. It has melodies slightly akin to ARCH ENEMY and the overall approach is very similar to the Brazilian band HEAVIEST. One of the main assets of this album is the lead guitars. It has lots of good solos and one is right in the first song "The Portrait". They also showed some good riffing in the songs "Awakened Desire", "Ghost of Blackness", and "Downfall". Because their style doesn't really have a fixed and distinct identity, it can also be classified as a Prog album. There are lots of twist and turns every here and there, and the bass lines can justify that Djent label.

One thing that I noticed in the album is that the songs are overflowing with energy but somehow, for some reasons, not a lot remains with you after some listens. One of the catchiest songs in the album is "Raise The Poison Inside" for its impressive guitar work on the intro and engaging verses. However, the most important part which is the chorus did not have enough explosiveness in it to make it a really memorable and epic track. And that was the case for the rest of the songs. The intro is good, the buildup is fine, but the choruses fall short in terms of catchiness.

Production-wise, I appreciate how they managed to infuse some classic Heavy Metal chunks in it above a solid Modern Metal bedrock. The song "Ghost of Blackness" has some JUDAS PRIEST elements in it especially in the riffs. It also has the best guitar solo in the album. In terms of songwriting, it does not reach that top-tier songwriting but did just enough to make decent songs. Overall, it's a good release from a young band that still has a big room for improvement.
