Depictions of Chaos

DOOMSDAY are a California crossover band slated to release their new EP November 2022. They come at you with a triple guitar attack that you don't see often outside of melodic, technical or symphonic metal, so it is interesting to see how these guys tie it all together. The band put out two singles leading up to this release in 2021 with "Agony Blossoms Fear" and "Soul Deprivation". Earlier in 2022, the band released Riff City Promo, a five track promo to help get their name out on an ever busy and growing Bay Area metal scene.
The release opens with the track "Depictions of Chaos" and after a short guitar interlude the song transforms into a blazing thrash demon hellbent on destruction. The guitars are more layered together within classic thrash metal riffs instead of being too much to handle. The vocals are a consistent aggressor for the music as the track itself delivers a punch of old time thrash with an edge. That is carried over into the next track as well as the EP itself. The guys don't beat around the bush with any gimmicks or over production, just a battering ram of killer riff and timely hooks that would have GARY HOLT banging his head. "Attaining Heaven by Force" has variations and timing on the main riffs to keep you engaged, drums that hold the track together with solid work and timely precision.
There is comparison to what was coming out of the east coast hardcore scene in the early and late 90's. A plug in and giver effect to the music that has the listener salivating and amped up for the live show. That comes out in the opening of "Agony Blossoms Fear" and "Mask of Sanity" as the guitars blaze on with the snare pounding away to set the tempo. The songs then resort back to the machine gun guitar picking and end with a nice tasty bass line to calm the nerves. The bass was not as audible at the first of the EP as it is on the back end but it has a beefy effect to the track "Soul Deprivation" as well. Matched with soaring guitar work and solos, this two and a half minute beast is a relentless thrash assault. The EP finishes off as it started with "Poisoned Disorder", a song triggered by police injustice, feeding fuel to the rager of a track. More riffs to melt your face off and a tempo to speed off down a highway without looking back.
If what you are looking for in terms of thrash, you can't go wrong with this one. The guitars sound killer, the vocals fit the description, and the rhythm section are solid. The EP finishes with you wanting more and awaiting the next release as it really shows potential for a long career from these musicians, as they are just getting started. Really enjoyed this release and would recommend metal heads to give it a try.
