If there is one thing that has become apparent to me, from my two decades of being involved with heavy music; it is that there is no shortage of people in this world, that fanatically stand before the altar of old school Death Metal, with wide eyes and horns high! I myself, spent quite a lengthy amount of time holding those values as gospel.
DITHEIST are one such example of this ongoing loyalty to this subgenre, and they most certainly aren't shy about displaying said brutal plumage.

From the city of Chicago, DITHEIST have released a raging slab Death Metal titled "Eternity of Nothingness". It is abundantly clear, these lads have been raised on a healthy diet of MORBID ANGEL, VADER and NAPALM DEATH; the familiarity of the playing styles are quite obvious. The ferocity they have captured here is impressive; brutal and straight to the point, DITHIEST are bristling with all the hall marks of classic Death Metal. The percussion on here are particularly good, jumping from blast beats to awesome tom fills; and the double bass drums are incredible! This band is very lucky to have this fellow behind the kit. The guitar work has that signature of harmonics, and thick chugs, which will tweak the interest of extreme music fans; there is even the odd little moment of groove in the transitional parts of the songs.

The vocals are utterly savage, really deep and growling, the vocalist could more than adequately hold his own with top tier singers of this sub-genre. The production on this album is really top notch as well; I find bands of this intensity often have albums that sound a little 'muddy', and often the individual presence of the instruments gets a little lost, but not so here. But once again that same gripe I have about Death Metal resurfaces, the vocal lines and melodies are often very structured to what the instruments are doing, they end up sounding fairly similar, and get kind of bland from time to time. If the vocal melodies reached out a little more, this album would have had much more life to it. However, I must say that this is a very impressive Death Metal album, the best and catchiest tracks here were "Plague Doctor", "Doomed", "Blind Dead" and "Crippling Vexation". So yeah, not too bad at all; if you lean to the extreme, this is for you!
