DISSORTED, a melodic thrash band, formed in the summer of 2004 in Bavaria. After having a rotating lineup, they found a stable lineup in 2006. They released their first EP in 2014 entitled, "I". Now they return to the fold with their first full-length album, "The Final Divide".
DISSORTED has a very catchy thrash sound. There are elements of traditional heavy metal, power metal, and the prototypical thrash sound that blend as a completely furious sound. It's as if you mashed together the sounds of SLAYER and ICED EARTH. "Aggressor - Protector" opens the album in a fierce way. Playing as the catalyst for the rest of the album. The pure energy of their music beating you down with every track. I always have a soft spot for when bands of a certain genre add a little death metal to their sound. I just find the blending of brutal vocals and blast beats as a nice undertone for a lot of metal. That is what is so surprising about DISSORTED.
I was not expecting to also hear some death metal influence in their music. "Deserter (Age of the Wolf)" comes in swinging with that death metal sound. It couples nicely with their already upbeat thrash melodies. I love how there is a combination of the more traditional metal sound, almost IRON MAIDEN-ish, but full on thrash. "The Plague" is that song to a T. It has the vocal cadence of the traditional heavy metal sound but brings in the power of the trash metal along with it. DISSORTED does a fantastic job of blending traditional and newer sound to make their thrash raw and melodic. "Corrosion of Thoughts" brings that death metal influenced sound back, but this time there is some incredible guitar soloing to go along with the track. Even when DISSORTED slows down their sound, it still carries with it a powerful punch.
They slow the tempo down in "Leviathan" to showcase some of their musical prowess. The track has a very slow melody to start things off before getting back to their fierce thrash sound, and in comes the gutter growls to top everything off. I absolutely love the powerful brutality that DISSORTED accompanies throughout this album. "Picasso Warhead" has that brutal thrash sound emanating from the entire track. The chanting vocals offering up the gutter growls, while the thrash melody carries on beating you in the head with its fierce and unrelenting power.
Overall, DISSORTED provides a deeply musically stylish album in "The Final Divide". The album brings with it influences of death metal, power metal, and thrash metal to form a completely powerful sound. If you have not heard this album, listen to it immediately. It will keep you headbanging and wanting more.
