Dischordia - Sources album cover

Progressive Death Metal trio form Oklahoma, DISCHORDIA, deliver a brutal amount of force, aggression and straight up intensity in their latest EP "Sources". Clearly influenced by the likes of MESSHUGAH and DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN; if it's sheer, undiluted brutality you're looking for, DISCHORDIA do not hold back.

The first two tracks on this EP, "Three Dimensional Effect" and "All the World is Mad" are instantaneously hard-hitting in the sense that they're both heavy, highly paced and overflowing with aggression. With enthusiastic and powerful drumming, robust and forceful riffs and downright vicious vocals, "Three Dimensional Effect" fits straight into the US Death Metal style. "All the World is Mad" also delivers a style of a similar calibre, yet cranks the aggression down a few notches in parts of the track. After steady, flowing piano sounds it plunges you straight back into the punchy riffs and vocal style of Jens Kidman of MESSHUGAH.

The third track, "Sugar Coated Sour" takes a much more Progressive and possibly Technical approach straight from the outset. It's crazy how much their direction changed from the first two tracks to this one. I would go as far to say that even the vocal style changes more towards a more abrupt shouting, as opposed to the previous rough and deep vocals. However, this works well to contribute to the savage sound DISCHORDIA are successfully delivering. As for the fourth track, "Don't Go Into That Barn", a title which cast the image of an 80's horror movie, was a really unusual and possibly humorous track. Using distorted vocals and a Country style rhythm, I didn't know what to think. I was slapped in the face as a quick moment of sheer brutality made an appearance for the short time of about five seconds.

This EP overall, was a pretty impressive one with their variation of styles that they've managed to pack into just four tracks. An interesting listen to say the least!
