DIE EGO are a power trio coming from London, United Kingdom. This will be the release of their debut album, "Culto," which is unleashed unto the world 12th June 2020. They have been rocking since 2015 and in that time have had some notable appearances such as O2 ISLINGTON and CAMDEN ROCKS FESTIVAL. But which the release of this album you could see DIE EGO propelled onto much bigger stages. This is a band which a no nonsense attitude to playing some straight up pure bone crunching heavy metal music.
The album kicks things off with its title track, "Culto." This really sets up for the sonic brutality that the listener is getting themselves in for. Starting off with a piano melody to set up the atmosphere. The band then come in catching the listener off guard. And then it comes in, a mighty guitar riff from the man himself, Diego Fardel. A common thing throughout the rest of the album, these guitar riffs hit hard and heavy. Then we get that almighty chorus that compels you to bang your head. Truly a great song and a wise choice for the album opener.
Next up we get the song "Anger is Yours." This is a solid tune that carries well after the previous song. Filled with solid rhythms from Gabe Scapigliati (Bass) and Dave Grosz (Drums) with a great guitar groove in the mix. This track really delivers as well with that sing-a-long chorus. Another great song comes from "There is no Tomorrow" filled with great southern style grooves with a guitar riff that wouldn't look out of place on a BLACK LABEL SOCIETY album. Towards the end we get a song titled "Don't get Close," with its spoken word assault and great work with that guitar wah pedal and lyrics that show a battle through despair. Once again DIE EGO are truly delivering on the goods with this album.
The album closes with "I Promise". From the intro to this one you really get vibes of "South of Heaven" by SLAYER. It continues with a start stop combo to throw you off guard. The song gets quite impressive with its breakdown jam that shows some great musicianship and how tight of a band DIE EGO really are. You can really hear the bands influences on this and from my listen of it I picked up vibes from the likes of DOWN and CORROSION OF CONFORMITY with guitar solos reminisced of Jerry Cantrell of ALICE IN CHAINS. From listening to "Culto" I often found myself banging my head with out even realizing it, that's the effect this band has on you. You can hear this these guys are a force to be reckoned with as a live act and I for one would be there banging my head with a beer in hand for DIE EGO. With an album like this there could potentially be great thing to come for DIE EGO.
