Ok, if you are not aware of the name Allman you can just go kill yourself right now. Just stop reading this review and stop listening to any kind of music that contains the words Hard or Heavy in it. For the rest of you, this review will be as pleasant as you think it will be. We all missed Mr. Allman's work and his closest relative is here to reward our patience with one hell of a groovy album!
Mr. Devon Allman is more than well known to the Hard Rock/Blues and Heavy Metal audience from his relationship with the ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND, one of the most important and influential Hard Rock/Blues bands. He is basically Gregg Allman's (THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND's singer) own son! His brand new work Torch is not miles away from his past sound. The Blues scales are here reminding us of the main ingredient of every single kind of music, groove. Let's not forget that this guy has those midnight blues already!
Equipped with a great production and some boogie temper, HONEYTRIBE are Allman's brand new war machine. Following his father's steps, Devon formed his own act, HONEYTRIBE, and his debut (if I am not mistaken) album is more than a great reminder of what Southern Rock/Blues stands for! The album contains a wide variety of songs. From the Blues meets Soul Torch and the jamming style Mahalo, to the soft cover of Bob Marley's classic No Woman, No Cry and the ultra heavy Blues track Why You Wanna Bring Me Down?, which resembles to the great Stevie Ray Vaughan. When listening to Torch (the album), you won't feel like you are listening to a studio album at all. Grab a beer or a glass of whiskey, relax and you'll fell as if HONEYTRIBE are performing live in front of you. This is totally a jam band, not a made up studio crap!
Torch will definitely please a wide variety of fans such as metallers, Blues lovers, Hard Rock fans, Stoner fans, as well as fans of the hard sound in general. It seems that the Allman family has the groove running in their blood! No doubt about that! All in all, this album seems to be one of the best releases I have reviewed this year. No shit! Just listen to it and you will realize that the Allman legacy is far from being extinct!
