Depopulation Department

Coming out of Spain with their debut EP titled "Life Kills". DEPOPULATION DEPARTMENT has only been around since the summer of 2018. All four members came together with Lucky being the last to join on bass, and from what I have read; they have been working nonstop to push out this debut release for themselves, and their fans.
"Bound To Destroy" is what starts this release off and immediately after the sample intro, you get the classic "punk/hardcore" vibes from these guys. Hard hits on the snare drum and power chords from the guitars are what stand out the most to me on this track. "A Wolf Among The Sheep" is the second track and it starts out with just the guitar until the rest of the instruments join in. The guitar solos in this one isn't half bad either. "Collateral Damage" is probably my favorite on the record. The ambience guitar sounds give it a nice feel about mid-way through. The beginning starts out with a siren like sound that signals the apocalypse, and then out of nowhere the instruments kick in with energy that could definitely help get the crowd pumped up and going at a live show.
"Wounds of War" starts out with Ana on vocals this time and it sets a different vibe and direction with the sound. All I can think of with this song is like late 1980's - early 1990's punk music. There is lots of energy and passion from all members. "Sota" is full of distortion and power chords and more backup vocals from Ana as Luisma takes position as front man on this song. "Don't Blame The Victims" follows the same format as the songs preceding it. More rage, passion and high energy drumming. "Life Kills" is the last song on the record and it has the potential to include the fans to chant along with the lyrics as the lead guitar guides the rest of the song until the end.
As for a punk/hardcore album "Life Kills" definitely nails it on the head. Although I am a little disappointed that a lot of the songs basically followed the same format as the others and there didn't seem to be too much going on with the musical direction on the album. But I can tell that DEPOPULATION DEPARTMENT had fun writing and recording this EP. With the members only forming a little over a year ago, there is for sure room for growth with this band.
