DEMONOMANCY, an Italian born Death Metal band, has been around for a decade. They have two EPs and their debut full-length release "Throne of Demonic Proselytism" under their belts. 2016 marked the release of a split record "Archaic Remnants of the Numinous / At the Diabolus Hour" with Finnish band WITCHCRAFT. DEMONOMANCY is back with their sophomore effort "Poisoned Atonement" released in early 2018. The album comes in with eight tracks and a listening time of just under 42 minutes.

The opening track "Intro - Revelation 21.8" starts with an apocalyptic atmosphere. Complete with the creepy church organ and all. The vocals are spoken in what would be assumed as a cult type gathering; low and formidable. Within this short minute intro, we know exactly how this album will play out and its enticing.

"Archaic Remnants of the Numinous", track three, comes in a little less heavy, but is soon back drenching the track with a thick bass, deep set guitars, and drums that are complete with blast beats galore, while adding in a cymbal ensemble. It works incredibly well with the rest of the work. Typically, that's not something I enjoy, but this was fantastic. This is a grandiosely written track dripping in Death Metal eminence.

Track five, "Poisoned Atonement (Purged in Molten Gold)" is the epitome of everything good in Metal. The guitars are quick. It's pure speed, even more so than the drums, which is quite a feat. The vocals are guttural and gritty. At about the two-minute mark the bass gets a little lime line that lasts the remainder of the track. The melody is catchy and a little lighter than the previous tracks. The last 45 seconds or so, is pure chaos and its glorious.

"Fathomless Region of Total Eclipse", track seven, is so, so low. The bass and the guitars are so intricately interwoven here, that for the first few listens, that's all I could focus on. The musicianship found in this one track is enough to prove the credibility of this band. Also, those strings are sexy.

The final track, "Nefarious Spawn of Methodical Chaos", is first and foremost a badass track title. Now that, that is out of the way, we are back to fast action, punch you in the face Metal. There are areas of slower more melodic elements that enhance the overall sound, including a seductive bass line that rounds out the album nicely.

DEMONOMANCY's "Poisoned Atonement" is an incredible album. If you are looking for something hard hitting that still has some melody and a bit of atmosphere with pure Metal roots, this is that album.
