Demiurg - The Hate Chamber album cover

The Demiurg is a gnostic idea of the entrapping physical being; much akin to Jean-Paul Sartre's idea of being caused anguish by limiting one's infinite mind (nothing). You can easily understand that we have to do with some thinking musicians and probably something more than the average Metal band. Not only this, but the above with the addition of the name Dan Swano is something that attracted my interest from the very first second I put my eyes on this album.
This band has been active since 2006 when it began as a project by Rogga Johansson; a musician that has played in bands like EDGE OF SANITY and DERANGED. As I read somewhere, this studio project turned into a normal band as time went by. So, after Mr. Johansson has gathered some more than great musicians to materialize his musical dream, the first ever DEMIURG album. This album was crafted deep in hell's flames and Mascot Records is the messenger carrying it to us.
When I saw the band's line up, I thought that either The Hate Chamber would hit me like a Heavy Metal thunder or I would be completely disappointed with this all star band. Don't tell me that a Death Metal band with musicians that carry the names of bands like EDGE OF SANITY, GOREFEST, THE DUSKFALL and BLOODBATH isn't something that tempts you? The band was more than willing to clear some things out by punching my face with some brutal shit from the very first note. Resurrecting The Rotting (Flesh Festival Pt. II) kicks in with a totally EDGE OF SANITY meets DISMEMBER meets GRAVE brutality. And just as the song ended and I tried to gather up my pieces, Cremated Lies The Day throws me on the floor again, beating the living crap out of me.
The band's origin is obvious from every single element in The Hate Chamber since the European Death Metal stinky air is all around the album. When you listen to it, a scent of rotten corpses wanders around making you smile from satisfaction. Who wouldn't be satisfied after spending money on an album that will pay back every cent you spent for it? The fact is that I don't know who should I praise for this dirty little Death Metal diamond. Did all the members take part in the composing of the songs or is it the work of DEMIURG's mastermind Rogga Johansson?
One more thing that adds extra quality to an already kick ass Death Metal record is the behind the scenes work of the Metal legend Dan Swano. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered at Swano's Unisound Studios by himself who definitely knows how to handle this kind of music. The guitars are raw and heavy as fuck, the bass sounds like a tank that brings down your house and the vocals are... exactly what this band needed. Mr. Johansson growls like a fucking psycho making your ears bleed! Is there a European Death Metal renaissance taking place or is it just my imagination? New albums from ENTOMBED, GRAVE, DISMEMBER and INCISION and the reunion of the masters of melodic Death Metal AT THE GATES are something that someone should take under consideration. Smell the scent of death all around you my friends, it is here once again...
