Deivos - Emanation From Below album cover

DEIVOS are coming from Poland, although their Death Metal is straight from the USA highly influenced by bands like CANNIBAL CORPSE, IMMOLATION and INCANTATION. The group started its activities somewhere between 1997 and 1998 by the guitarist Tomasz Kolcon, who was also a member of ENGRAVED. The first recording was the Praised By Generations demo, followed by a mini CD named Hostile Blood and - in the beginning of 2006 - they entered Hertz Studios for the recording of their debut album, Emanation From Below that will be released in the end of January in Europe and in the middle of March in the United States.
As I said, the music of DEIVOS is brutal, aggressive with high dopes of technical playing that except the names I wrote in the beginning you can add the Brazilians KRISIUN, SINISTER or the mid-career records of DEATH, embodied with much more brutalism like the bass parts in Blackness Incarnate. Their instrument skills are very good and sometimes their ideas are cool, but I'm catching myself getting lost in their riffing labyrinth. For example, some guitars parts in No Father Of Mine are without meaning, with only consequence the boredom and escapism of the listener away from the chaos that the band wants to create.
Another negative part is the plasticity of the drumming, that in one way I understand that inside the whole musical building is the only way to be heard clearly, but it reduces the power from the sound. Include also that, despite the fact that the time length is close to 30 minutes, the limitation of nice guitar riffs makes Emanation From Below difficult to be listened in all its entity.
This debut album doesn't have so much [of a] 'death' feel as I wanted for a record of this style, but I have to say that for the paths they have chosen to walk they are good and probably you could expect from them something good if their riffs get more 'to the point', having more meaning and inspiration.
