The often heavily debated topic of the Anthropocene epoch makes for the odd title of an EP by the UK based group, DEIFIED, and while the EP title, "Anthrobscene", refers specific to a book and proposed era by author JUSSI PARIKKA the message is clear.

A "Prelude" is often an overlooked and great way to commence an EP or album as it sets the tone as well as demonstrates what the band has to offer sound wise, and this one in particular does not disappoint of any grounds consisting of heavy beats, pummeling rhythms, and eerie atmosphere the track manages both the sense of triumph and apprehension. "Dark Desires" starts up with a hybrid rhythm and lead riff which eventually devolves into the verse where the entire band can be heard in distinction. The musical themes match the lyrical imagery in perfection as both embellish the skewed ideology of devotion to a malign god. "Blood Under The Bridge" starts up with synchronized leads that seamlessly transfer into headbanging rhythms; the solo takes center attention as the rest of the instruments quiet down into absolute silence for a measure of time, where within the song as a whole takes a deep breath. The final track, "An Ode To Armageddon," has a grandiose build up and progression. Ending an EP or album on an instrumental can go either way, but in the case of "Anthrobscene" it works greatly for the band.

The instruments are well recorded and mixed having an astoundingly professional sound to the whole of the EP. The bass is quite subtle for what one would expect but still provides a strong foundation for the band. The guitars are the center focus of all the instruments, but sit in a great balance both between one another and the rest of the instruments performed. The drums have the perfect volume and dynamic resounding in a good amount of reverb. The vocals are centered, angry, and direct they're nasty and gritty and fit in well with the mix and themes of the band.

"Anthrobscene" has a unique identity to itself sitting somewhere between Groove and Metalcore it doesn't truly fit either distinction by great example. For anyone who has an affinity for heavy, loud, and fast then one cannot stray too far from DEIFIED without taking notice.
