Were you to be asked of one of the oddest groups within your musical library perhaps a few names would immediately come to mind, inclusive that of THE SHAGGS but for different reasons not wholly pertaining to the descriptor of "weird" of course-however for those who indulge in the viscous and visceral pursuits of Metal in all its capacities there is a name in particular whose visage bears that of terror, shock, and confusion. DEBAUCHERY holds a special place in the hearts and minds of its fans, literally commanding ownership of such vitals; Monster Metal is as much a flagship for the band as much as it's a harbinger to fans carrying on its wings of destruction an air of headbanging and brutal prowess.

The album opens with the track, "Bloodking" featuring none other than TIM "RIPPER" OWENS on the track-it's also worth mention that the track "Blutgott" is the same song at its core gerade auf deutsch gesungen. The song has quite a unique force to itself being strung somewhere between Doom and Heavy Metal whilst still maintaining that forward intensity one would come to expect in faster paced compositions. "Debauchery Warmachine" breaks the mold by offering a riff and groove more in the realm of Classic Metal; the second iteration of this song on the last CD is the same as prior just bearing a different singing approach. "Metal To The Bone" and "Böse Bin Ins Blut" has a similar construction to the song preceding it such as the use of a half-time groove for the majority of the song, a group chant for the chorus, and inclusive of a polyphonic lead playing over the rhythm within the chorus sections. "Hate Kill Murder" und "Hassen Töten Morden" once more shift the dynamics of the record opening with an exceptionally minimalistic introduction comprised of the instruments each bouncing on the beat as it commands their march. "Debauchery Blood God" has about itself that Classic kind of tone to it-the overall song is quite powerful and verse and riff constantly grounding the listener unto a headbanging state of being.

The album is that of strength incarnate gaining its fortitude from the combination of its instrumentation. The bass is a curious entity being easier recognized as a force rather than an audible accompaniment, it exists to bridge the band and provide a greater foundation for the rests of the instruments to stand on and does so with a gritty richness. The guitars are at the forefront of the mix just behind the vocals-they're formed of a large sound more in line with that of a loud and broadened sound rather than just sitting in the mix at a mid-range. The drums are simple but elegant cutting through the rest of the instruments but never overpowering any. Lastly, the vocals are outstanding and interesting to say the least ranging from a deeper and almost primal growl to those of a piercing tenor and in German as well.

Monster Metal is an interesting piece with great ambition and the talent to match behind each instrument, within its soundscape lies a curious aspect of course, that of its vocal approach whose reach and delivery is nothing if not diverse. To the listener this multi-pak is that of different strokes from the same pen, an enchanting one at that.
