Death Descending
Death Descending
From their record label’s website, “Post-death metal outfit DEATH DESCENDING has inked a deal with Wormholedeath to release their self-titled debut EP, which will arrive on November 22nd, 2024. Rising from the ashes of a failed band project, it is the singular vision of a dedicated musician. This one-man wrecking crew unleashes a monstrous sonic assault that blends the fury of blackened death metal with the atmospheric expanse of post-metal and the bone-crushing brutality of slam. Their self-titled EP promises a pulverizing experience.” The album has four songs.
“Permanence” is first; a very short, one-minute song. The guitar tone is nasty, slow, and punishing, but it’s over nearly as soon as it starts. “Death Descending” is a little longer, but it still clocks in at just over two minutes. Both the vocals and the music are well done, but I just wish the songs were longer. He paints a very bleak picture of life. “Death Dealer” has a bit more sonority and energy from the scratchy guitar riff and horrid vocals. But again, just when it gets going, is it over. “Where No Light Treads” closes the EP. It opens with clean guitar tones, and a brutal, punishing sound follows. It ends again on acoustic guitars.
Overall, the album clocks in at under 10 minutes of total playing time, but it has a promising sound that I would love to hear more of. He created a very bleak and somber landscape that is definitely worth exploring more.
