DARKNESS DYNAMITE? Kind of typical yet weird name for a band I must admit. I didn't know anything about these guys so I decided to do some research and find some information. The fact that the band's singer is SUBLIME CADAVERIC DECOMPOSITION's drummer is a pleasant fact, but I saw many people describing the band as Metalcore, which is not so pleasant for me...
Who are they? Where do they come from? In fact, DARKNESS DYNAMITE are based in Paris, France, and they have been around the Metal scene for something more than 2 years. Formed in January 2007, the band didn't lose any time and released its debut self financed EP (Through The Ashes Of The Wolves) in June 2007. Even though I found one more - self titled - EP before the one I mentioned, the band's official bio doesn't mention it (but their merchandise does!), so...
After the success of their EP, BOOM! The band lands a contract with German label Metal Blade and their debut full-length effort is a fact! I must admit that The Astonishing Fury Of Mankind is not exactly what I expected. Despite the whole Metalcore crap written around the internet, these guys combine the melodic guitar leads of melodic Death Metal/Metalcore with the modern groove of bands like MACHINE HEAD and BLOODSIMPLE. Of course DARKNESS DYNAMITE is not the best band I came across, but they are definitely better from all the Metalcore crap that floods the market. The heaviness of their debut album is something many modern bands will be jealous of, and it is more than obvious that these guys have great potential to offer much better things in the near future. These are only their first steps, and I am damn sure that the talented quintet will produce some pure metallic violence. Not to mention the heavy, clear and at the same time raw sound this album has.
Maybe the rating you'll see below doesn't match my words, but let's not get too excited. I am just holding myself and will wait for their next release. The fact is that they are modern, talented, and mix Metalcore, Thrash and Death Metal in a release that will please all fans of the 21st century Metal scene. Trust me, if TRIVIUM were the next big thing, these guys are much bigger!
