Leo Rising
Danko Jones

Formed in 1996 Danko Jones hail from Ontario Canada.Over their nearly 30 year history the band have had a few line up changes, released over a dozen albums and played live all over the world.Danko Jones are renowned for their passionate & intense, energetic live shows which have reached six continents ,which includes support slots with Beck and also Nickelback as well as their own headline tours.Their albums have been consistent over the years which have earnt them 6 Juno Award nominations.Past album releases include "We Sweat Blood" released in 2003,also the 2010 release "Below The Belt" with their last studio released in 2023 "Electric Sounds".Known for their anthemic rock,"Leo Rising" is their 11th studio album.
So not having heard Danko Jones material before, know of them but never had the pleasure to actually listen to them. The opening number "What You Need" is a Punk guitar driven track which has a quite fast tempo, great energy,an appealing track from the get go."Diamond In The Rough" takes a more Classic Rock direction which features Marty Friedman, which has a great guitar solo, some deep bass in parts to give the track some dynamics with ,Danko Jones vocals on point."Everyday Is Saturday" is a fun upbeat track, straight away it grabs me,and the chorus is ear worm, catchy & unforgettable, the thunderous riffs, the drum patterns just make this a instant likeable track, which has now been added to my playlist! "I Love It Louder" is an anthemic track, which I'm sure would go down well live, which I'm sure the crowd would love which will get the fans moving & going crazy. With a 70's Glam sound, fused with some pop touches with a bit of Southern Rock parts "I'm Going Blind" veers off, which shows the bands diverse sound, proceeded by "Hot Fox" which is a more Modern Rock track, the guitar work sounding similar like bands such as The White Stripes,a track which will rock your socks off!
"It's A Celebration" is another track which sounds huge for a trio, packs a punch which is a consistent feeling I get with this record,"Gotta Let It Go" is a carefree ,couldn't give a F**K track which gives me 70's Punk vibes, another kick ass track full of fuzzy guitar riffs, tight thumping drums & bass with vocals full of attitude. The album closer "Too Slick For Love" closes the album,an explosive Metal/Bluesy number with a banging melody, with some slick guitar runs, with Danko Jones delivering a killer vocal. "Leo Rising" is an album that doesn't dip in quality at all. There are no weak tracks, which have variety in their musical direction which are delivered to the listener with conviction. The experience of nearly 30 years shows and I'm in disbelief of the huge wall of sound Danko Jones as a trio deliver.Superb album from start to finish and now I'm going to have visit their back catalogue.
