Anthropocene
Cry of Dawn
Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to present the second installment of the Melodic Rock/AOR project CRY OF DAWN featuring Göran Edman on lead vocals. The self-titled debut album, released in 2016, was a welcome return for Edman and the new album, "Anthropocene" sees the talented singer sounding positively inspired." The album has eleven songs, and "Devils Highway" is the first. The opening melody line sounds familiar...it sounds like DEF LEPPARD's "Rock of Ages." From there however, the song goes a different direction. Goran has a really nice voice, and the song is thickened up with keyboards and backing vocal harmonies. I don't care for the slow pace, but that is a personal preference.
"Memory Lane" has a faster pace with some big riff and keyboard accents. The chorus is memorable, and the lead guitars breaks are fantastic. "Swan Song of Our Love" is a slower song with a bluesy groove, and pensive lyrics. An emotional transfers come through in this charming song as well. "Edge of a Broken Heart" is that heart-tugger that we fans of yesteryear look forward to hearing on an AOR album. Keys and tender vocals lead the song, and it crescendos to a grand chorus. "Sign of the Times" has a rocking pace that will get your foot tapping, or your head swaying, and Goran goes for a glass-shattering range in his vocals. The keyboard and guitar solo exchange is also pretty banging.
"A Million Years of Freedom" is that mid-tempo rocker that has some really nice accents. These variations in the music add dynamics and texture to the album, as well as adding some excitement for the listener. "Long Time Coming Home" is a slow and soulful rocker with some bluesy elements. The change of pace shows that the band has some songwriting skills, and are not content to rest on their laurels. "High and Low" closes the album. I love the smooth, positive tones of this song. It energizes me for the day. The chorus is full of rich, backing harmonies and the sound is memorable. This project starts with the right ingredients...a singer with a flexible and commanding voice, and a multi-instrumentalist who knows how to back him up. The album is fun to listen to, catchy, and memorable as well. Bravo, fellas!
