Its finally here! The brand new, release from Spanish Thrashers, CRISIX....What! Wait! New CRISIX album? Its seems like it wasn't that long ago these brilliant bone crushers gifted us with their Thrash - Master-piece, "Against The Odds". If you're not familiar with CRISIX, they are an extremely talented Thrash Metal band from Barcelona, Spain and have been dominating the European Metal Scene along side the likes of ANGELUS APATRIDA and SUICIDAL ANGELS. Their style is completely their own, with a Vocal style like no other! Javier, B.B., Albert and Pla are all extremely accomplished musicians and the synchronization and symmetry between them is mesmerizing. Don't believe me? Just check out any one of their previous releases.
What CRISIX SESSIONS - "American Thrash" is, a full album of cover songs from various American Thrash Metal legends such as TESTAMENT, EXODUS, VIO-LENCE and more. This entire album pays homage to legends and pioneers of the genre. As far as I'm concerned this should be done far more often. The front cover also says "Volume One" in the top left corner, so I'm looking forward to see if there will be more installments of this kind from these ferocious thrashers and who they will cover next.
The album kicks off with "World In A World", written by VIO-LENCE. Now this is a cover song so we cant talk about originality, however there's some considerable differences. Tuning! CRISIX tune their guitars down one full step, to the key of "D", giving them a much deeper crushing tone. Vocals! Juli Bazooka has a vocal style like no other. The flexibility and diversity of his Vocals are so unpredictable, that you don't know what's coming next, even if it's a song you have heard countless times before from another artist.
Next track on the list is "Critical Mass", originally recorded by NUCLEAR ASSAULT. You really got to tip your hat to CRISIX, it's not easy to elaborate on something that's already perfect, but its CRISIX! Everything they do, they make their own. With Mr.bazooka on Vocals it would be hard for them to not sound completely original.
Next up is "The Hood" by Old School Crossover/Thrashers - EVIL DEAD. Simply put, a fantastic job! Everything is on point. Now there's no point in me going over every song on the album. This is stacked with monumental American Thrash anthems. Most people reading this have already heard the originals so you have an idea of what is to be expected. What CRISIX brings to the table is their signature, unhinged CRISIX style, the diverse Vocal style of Juli Bazooka (Bazooka describes him perfectly), absolutely flawless talent from the entire band and a modern, bone crushing tone and feel. Just like any other CRISIX album, the entire album is a party, unhinged and unpredictable!
My favorite tracks would have to be "Toxic Waltz", originally by Thrash Masters, EXODUS and "Chalice Of Blood" by FORBIDDEN. Just wicked songs period. Fast and tight riffs and it is just awesome to hear them done by CRISIX. This album is a must have for anyone that's a fan of the Thrash genre or a fan of any band involved. Scratch that, a must has for any metal head worldwide. If you haven't heard CRISIX yet, do yourself a favor, the time is now!
