Once In A Blue Moon
Civil Daze

Civil Daze are a Melodic Rock band who are based in Upplands Vasby, which is just north of Stockholm Sweden. This is also the birth place for bands such Europe,Candlemass.Universe III and H.E.A.T.Civil Daze originally started as a solo project for Mikael Danielsson, but he did fancy his own voice!,so the songs were shelved for some time until he found a suitable singer.Playing together for years in different bands Mikael found the perfect singer in Helena Sommerdahl who gave the songs an amazing new feel.To make Civil Daze complete they brought in some musician friends, despite being a new band they still have vast stage experience. Then unfortunately the pandemic struck.life got in the way,so here in 2025 finally release "Once In A Blue Moon" which is an appropriate title which points to the fact, that the album has been in the making for a long time.
The lead single/video "Top Of The World" kicks off this album which is a punchy track with an 80's feel, the vocals are really strong, with great rhythm which gets this album off to a solid start. The solid anthemic AOR number "A Million Miles Away" is just as good as the opening track if not better, the chorus soars, which along with the melody of the track result in perfect track for the radio airwaves."Face Down In The Dirt" is another solid track which has solid guitar work throughout which leads towards a more bluesy rocking number. "Paradise" which is laden with some neat keyboard touches, a feelgood, punchy track which flows with flare & Melodic panache, vocally making me think of Robin Beck territory. The start of "Got To Go" in the first instance leads me to believe Civil Daze are going down the ballad path, before the guitars and keys kick in to lead into a solid rocker with Helena's vocals definitely suiting the style of the track, which very much in the vein of Saraya,Femme Fatale sound who produced great material back in the day."The Right Kind Of Lovin" is a solid rocker from the moment it starts, which drew me in straight away, everything about it the tight rhythm section, the guitars, the harmonies & vocals are on point.
"Turn The Page" is another catchy number which again has a great chorus which has you hooked and singing the words, which I personally think is a trait of good songwriting. The tempo steps up a tad faster with another solid rocker "Heroes" which chugs along, the band sound tight and the guitar solo packs a punch!,"Revolution" is a more mid tempo track, with another smooth, timeless Melodic Rock chorus with more gorgeous raspy vocals. The closer " Givin' It All" concludes the album as strongly as the album opened to bring a great album to a rousing finale. "Once In A Blue Moon" has ten glorious tracks which make this record shine from start to finish.I'm a sucker for a female fronted Melodic/AOR band but boy does Helena Sommerdahl deliver on the vocal front! ,definitely the right call by Mikael Danielsson, these songs would not have worked or had the same impact or sound sung by a guy!A superb 80's style album which any fan of this genre will love as much as I did.A solid debut album from another band from Upplands Vasby in Sweden, there must be something in the water! Another solid Pride & Joy Music release from Birgitt and the team which is out now.
