Possession
Christian Mistress

After all the buzz and all the hype around this band and this record, I was quite anxious to discover it! The most important thing for me is authenticity, and I really think that CHRISTIAN MISTRESS have plenty of that. I would not put that in doubt. No modern stuff here just organic old-school Hard Rock in the late 70s tradition. I think it's their choice to remain dirty and real. However, there is a breaking point where I encounter myself with the harsh reality: I don't like it.
The problem with this band is when it was categorized as Occult Heavy Metal or when they were compared with the acts of NWOBHM or with MERCYFUL FATE. I tell that it is not by a chance. I think that the NWOBHM have found it's heir with 3 INCHES OF BLOOD / STEELWING / WHITE WIZZARD / STRIKER / ENFORCER or FURY (UK) with better singing or playing skills and also some deft songwriters in the real Tradition.
I truly believe that MERCYFUL FATE had regain in A TORTURED SOUL / HUNTRESS / PORTRAIT or IN SOLITUDE following an evil progeny with some deepness and some perspective in their music. However in the case of CHRISTIAN MISTRESS, it is a totally fail. Maybe it's the bad side of the wild web marketing, too much expectations leads to disaster.
For me they don't have much more to offer than their honesty and their rough basement / garage Rock sound, but no real Metal power or genuine idea. Just a worship backward-looking or a hippie flavor in a psychedelic trip and by far THE DEVIL'S BLOOD & HORISONT are also better in that game.
