Wherever We Roam…

Chaos Invocation

This was an uncompromising album in the sense that the band has a core value and sticks with it from start to finish. There was some variation along the way, but much of the path remained straight…straight through your flesh, and plunging you into the deep abyss from where the sounds of torture originated.

From Bandccamp, “The journey of CHAOS INVOCATION started in the fourth year of this Millennium. Ever since the beginning, it has been the intention to serve satanic music that was coming straight and unfiltered from the deepest chasm of the member’s soul and heart.” The album has nine songs, and the title track is first. It begins with solemn tones but segues into total aggression within a few bars. The sound is as thick as quicksand, and the vocals are contentious. It sounds like someone turned up the flames on an already scorched body. In “Ideal Sodom,” they rev the throttle and don’t let go, holding it forward like a maniac and driving straight through any barriers along the way.

“Golden Gates and Terrene Light” is the first song where we get a chance to catch our breath a little, and it moves forward with a swing…a black and lightless swing…but a swing nonetheless. They mix in some spoken vocals just to shake things up a bit. “Bridges Aflame” begins with solitary guitar notes that segue into another total burner of a song. Forget the fire, it’s more like the hot ashes of one that has already burned out. The solitary notes return once again amidst the utter madness. “No Throne Withstands” is a shorter song that focuses more on the dark side of life…despair, rage, anguish, and torture. Still, they never let off the gas pedal much, as the song moves quickly through space and time.

“This World Wants Us Dead” was the single released on the album, and it’s another with a moody opening. It’s like peering into thick fog in the morning, and once it lifts, the burning fire becomes evident. “Only in Darkness” is another overgrown song in the sense of the myriad of things that the band is able to pile into their songs. It also has a bite to it, as you would expect to find things in the darkness like this. The lead guitar work is also very well done, and can you say lead guitars in Black Metal? “Engravings of the Quivering Pedestal” closes the album, and there is a cadence to the vocals along with an ultra-heavy and aggressive sound. There are also solemn tones, but the anger that rages from their throats rules over everything.

This was an uncompromising album in the sense that the band has a core value and sticks with it from start to finish. There was some variation along the way, but much of the path remained straight…straight through your flesh, and plunging you into the deep abyss from where the sounds of torture originated.
