CHANGING TIDES is a Metal band with five members spread over Noord-Brabant, The Netherlands. The band's music is mostly influenced by the Metalcore and Deathcore genres. With a well-balanced combination of heavy riffs and deep breakdowns the band always gets the crowd moving. This is their debut, self-titled EP, and contains six tracks.

"The Sixth Call" leads us off. After an ominous lead-in, the deep and dark vocals come into play. The riffs are heavy and aggressive, and the vocals varied, from deep guttural utterances to high pitched screams. I would definitely say this falls somewhere in between Metalcore and Deathcore. The riff stays pretty much on an open E chord throughout, but there is some variation as well. "E.G.O" opens with hearty vocals and a weighted riff. The riff moves with a bit of motion here and there, and the lead guitar parts are a nice compliment.

"Disgraceful" opens with some guitar dissonance and some nice leads again. They seem to know how to create a good structure of a song, while keeping things fresh. The track is quite dark. Unfortunately, the bass guitar gets a little lost in the mix. The harmonized guitars add a nice layer in the song. "Awareness" is a short three-and-a-half-minute track, fueled by distorted guitars and deadly vocals. Pig squeals abound at every turn, and it builds a dark and gruesome atmosphere. "Fear Reality" opens with a slightly faster moving riff and again with rich, full vocals. The breakdown is particularly brutal. "Brumal" closes the album, and it's our first glance at clean guitars. The brutal death vocals work pretty well with the sound here but any more of them could get pretty repetitive.

Overall, the band presented a pretty strong debut here. It flirts on that line between Deathcore and Metalcore, and the vocals are absolutely unrelenting. Some of the tracks blend together too closely, and it's hard to create something unique in the genre these days. But these guys found some nice ways to do that. It's a promising debut and they have the talent. I would look forward to their debut full-length in the future and a little more experimentation to really set themselves apart.
