First Metastasis

Cancer Void

“First Metastasis” leans on traditional Death Metal with inspirations taken from the Swedish Death Metal sound
September 22, 2025

CANCER VOID were formed in 2024 and they are from Prague, Czech Republic. The Death Metal band release their debut EP. It was mastered by Alex Pusch (NECROMANCER; NOCTURNAL; WARHAMMER). The EP has a length of more than 20 minutes, and it was released via UK Doom, Black, and Death Metal specialists Me Saco Un Ojo Records. The debut EP starts with the tension-building, two-minutes pre-lude "Introduction", leading into "Breeding Pyramids", which starts with powerful guitar riffs and grim melodies. It is a track at a measured tempo and a sluggish rhythm going into the verse part. The vocals are growls and vary between the deep and medium end of the guttural range. After halfway through the track, there is an abrupt break in tempo and rhythm introduced by crushing basslines, The break is frantic with devastating riffs, but lasts only for a very short time, circling back for another verse part.

"Encased In Veins" is introduced by punishing guitar riffs at a measured tempo, switching to crazy pace shortly afterwards. The guitar riffing is very aggressive, while the melodies are doom-laden. The vocals have a greater versatility compared to the opening track. Highlight of the track is the break with the very contributing lead guitar solo. The track seamlessly transitions into "Interlude", which is what the title says, a two-minutes atmospheric interlude. "Ammonia Baths" is a fast Death Metal attack, inspired by the Swedish Death Metal sound. The guitar riffing is slightly more technical and playful compared to the other tracks on the release. The melodic framework is spine-chilling. The break is once again very short and slows down the tempo drastically for a short lead guitar contribution. "Ammonia Baths" was released as video, and the YouTube link is provided below. The EP finishes with "Cosmic Caverns Of Extinction" and it maintains the pace of "Ammonia Baths". The guitar riffing is very direct and aggressive, while the Swedish vibes are still present. The break is introduced by strong basslines at a measured tempo. What follows is a sequence of different tempi and rhythms with blood-freezing melodies during the first lead guitar solo. The second half of the break is played at mid-tempo with an excellent and very contributing second lead guitar solo, which goes towards the end of the track. "Cosmic Caverns Of Extinction" is the EP highlight.

CANCER VOID have a decent start to their career. They still find their feed in a crowded Death Metal market. "First Metastasis" leans on traditional Death Metal with inspirations taken from the Swedish Death Metal sound. It is a flawless delivery, with a songwriting that might still need a bit polishing. The EP is well produced. CANCER VOID show what they can do and naturally, there is still a bit of improvement. "First Metastasis" is a promising release and makes appetite for more.
