Camera Obscura Two - D.O.D. album cover

CAMERA OBSCURA TWO (a/k/a CO2) released their second album entitled "D.O.D." on February 21 2021; their first public release is of a 2019 single cover song of the SCHIZO song "Deathstress". With band members hailing from Poland & Italy, the "D.O.D." album tracks were compiled from recordings among various studios in Italy, Poland and China. The eighth track "Swamp Angel" is a modern cover of SCHIZO'S 1998 single "The Swamp Angel". The ninth track "Deathstress" is a cover from SCHIZO'S 1987 release entitled "Total Schizophrenia".

"My Ways Are Not Your Ways" - the first album track is a short overture.  Marco Mastrobuono quickly begins a heavily distorted guitar line that syncopates a descending motif that Giuseppe Orlando craftily inserts into an inverted snare pattern that fluctuates between the down beat & the off-beat. At about forty seconds, a track of angered vocals begins and is superimposed by additional vocal tracks. "To Bleed To Feel Alive" - the second album track, just after two pick up beats, as Giuseppe Orlando plays quarter notes at four four time for each beat–not dividing the beat but fortifying the pulse. The speedy thrash suspends at about forty seconds for about one minute; then guitars initiate the riff or the former thrash beat to eventually resume.

"Stalked By The Eye Of No God" - the third album track begins with the spoken lyrical phrase "I am dead"; after this, a slow drum beat begins–that is ornamented by a meaty bass sound.  Heavily distorted rhythm guitar adds a "blessedly cursed" presence by about twenty seconds into the tune.  The pulse remains slow & heavy until about just before one minute. Drums pause, yet with a bass foundation, the distorted guitar begins to prepare a lick–as listeners feel the gathering energy, as CO2 enters into a phase of marchy thrash, unique to their own; Giuseppe Orlando, together with Alberto Penzin & Andrea Ragusa, create a perfectly synchronized fist clenching groove.  Listeners will certainly enjoy moshing to this.

"Need For Limited Loss" - the fourth album track begins slowly but heavily. Multiple tracks of "string ringing open fifths amidst other intervals on the heavily distorted guitar together embody beautiful harmonic dissonance–which listeners need to hear.  As the song progresses, bass as with other album songs double the fifth of power chords on the bass note–creating an immensity of heaviness (in figure bass that would be spelled as a "I 6/4" chord). At about three minutes twenty seconds the Marco Mastrobuono plays power chords - doubling the rhythmic motif played by the bass - offering an easy, almost light, still head throbbing grove that compliments Giuseppe Orlando, together with Alberto Penzin & Andrea Ragusa. The song develops into speedy bout for a moment–and listeners will enjoy the melodic intentions of the bass as the song ends.

"(She's) The Enemy" - the fifth album track is a short tune with abrupt rhythmic bashes that open to an easy thrash grove and ends before the duration of one minute. "The Bitterest Drop (part one)" - the sixth album track opens slowly with heavily distorted guitars mixed with sustained bass chords–often using the 6/4 variation with the dominant on the bottom–another short tune. "(Hidden Track)" - the seventh album track opens with synthesized sounds of omenized electronics suggesting that something wicked this way comes.  This is definitely a track that folks who stay who home to deliver Trick or Treater candy on Halloween will enjoy blasting when opening the door to deliver candy; or, to use as background sounds for a haunted house. "Swamp Angel" - the eighth album track quickly proceeds into a chucky thrash with guitars muted until about the first minute passes; after which, Guitars and bass sustain notes & power chords.   Wailing leads embellish the song as though a guitar solo, but resound even through the vocals–a style of ornamentation that I greatly enjoy.

"Deathstress" - the ninth album track opens with a more traditional metal guitar riff. Just before one minute passes, the band enters into speedy thrash through which the bass is played with a slow, alluring vibrato reminiscent of the bass line from "Faith" by GHOST–a beautiful ornament to contrast the speed of the drums. Just before two minutes, the thrash pauses as Marco Mastrobuono begins to foreshadow the impending thrash bout by resounding the introductory Motif–and he does so with vigour & enthusiasm. For the Storm & Drang momentary period of thrash - Marco Mastrobuono, with Andrea Ragusa & Alberto Penzin maintain a smooth & legato feel, while Giuseppe Orlando, musically, pops with chops upon the snare & bass drums to create an enthusiastic rhythmic contrast–pure thrash that listeners will mosh once hearing it.  Additional slower moments replete with guitar soloing with successive rhythmic changes deliver a cover tune fresh for hearing & thrashing.
