Burned In Effigy originating from Chicago Illinois, with their formation dating back to 2017 with the release of their 6 track EP "Terrestrial" released in April 2017.It was five years before Burned In Effigy released their independently released debut album "Rex Mortem" in January 2022,which was warmly received by the metal media. This lead to sharing the stage with iconic bands such as Orbit Culture,Obscura and Revocation.Burned In Effigy are on a mission to bring their Melodic Death Metal sound across the US, eventually spreading this further afield & growing their fanbase. From the opening heavy drum assault, the heavy guitar riffs which greet me in the opening track "Befouled Benefaction" it is clear that Burned In Effigy are on a mission to be heavy as hell.

However brought into the mix are some lighter more mellow melodic parts, particularly in the guitar department tracks such as "Wage Of Exile","Monstrosity Reborn" have those subtle melodic tones."Retribution" has brutal dark energy, the aggressive snarling & growling vocals, also the track "Masquerade" is a short but sweet offering with a show of aggression with the fast tempo melodies & vocals. There are two musical interludes on " Tyranus Aeteron" that break up the heavy tracks to give the listener a breather the first one "Procession" is a feel mexican feeling with the classical guitar touches, whilst "Gallows Hymn" is an orchestral affair courtesy of Graham Southern that is a welcome relief to the former heavy barrage before it,which builds an epic feel, also anticipation which the leads to "The Racking" with yet more aggression, galloping heavy riffs with a prominent deep bass solo & some key touches mid way through. The album shows no signs of slowing down with the final track "Citadel" another Death Metal full onslaught with some more of those melodic guitar runs.

Burned In Effigy offers a solid release with the sophomore album "Tyranus Aeteron".There is some skilful drum work, brutal guitar riffs with some excellent melodic guitar runs that go together quite well. The vocals are really aggressive, also very angry that blend together to give off this energy & intensity which performed live will have the moss pit & circle of death going crazy!.It was a good listen which will appeal to the Death Metal masses."Tyranus Aeteron" is released through Band Camp 31st October.
