Brutonomy - The Duality Of Being album cover

It's always extremely unnerving when trying something that is completely out of your comfort zone, especially when you're a music journalist where understanding and appreciating different genres is key. You either really love it at first sight, liking it after a few listens or eventually decide it's not for you after giving it a few tries. The band and EP to test this logic is Australian Death Metal act BRUTONOMY and their EP "The Duality Of Being".

BRUTONOMY were formed by guitarist Dallas Bland, who also performs with DEHUMAN, DYING EMBERS and MYRDDRAAL, and original drummer Roger Stachow, who also played with DYING EMBERS and PSYCHRIST. This Death Metal quintet from Down Under set out to create fast, brutal and technical Death Metal that meanwhile wasn't set out to alienate new listeners and fans.

Their EP "The Duality Of Being" certainly demonstrates their mission from the off, the music is fast brutal and technical. To those who are familiar with the concept of Technical Death Metal, you will take to this like a duck to water. Whereas to those who are still treading water into this genre of Metal may need to take time to adjust.

The record itself contains explicable talent; this includes blistering guitar solos that will give ones fingers a work out from practicing air guitar, aggressive vocal work that shows us whose boss and rapid drums that uphold this band's goal. These tracks will undoubtedly cause chaos, mayhem and pandemonium at live shows in the smallest venues. In terms of Death Metal and a band like BRUTONOMY, that is a huge compliment; the neck aches from rapid headbanging, the bruises and blood from the brutal moshpits are positive outcomes. The EP can already encourage the rocking of your head back and forth so you are already onto a winner with this record.

Definitely a band to keep your eyes and ears out for, especially if you're looking for something new to try.
