BLOSSE is a Black Metal band formed in Montreal, Canada. "Nocturne" is the band's third release, and contains four lengthy tracks; the first two at or over twenty minutes. Judging by their lack of social media presence, the band is happy in the underground. Noctis (Adrian Blosse) is involved in several Black Metal bands; including ALKYMIST, MAESKRRYN, and OMBRAGE. Let's get down to the music and see what it is all about.

"Sous La Lunne Moribonde" is the opening track. It opens with what sounds like the wind howling, and footsteps in the night. Then, the main riff comes in and that wall of sound hits you. Anguished screams abound as the riff develops into the infamous one-two pattern that often accompanies Black Metal. The riff then changes a bit, becoming dark, and those winds return. Some symphonic elements rear their head, and it's a mad dash running for your life from a hulk with a chainsaw through the end of the track.

"La Vallee Maudite" opens with some synth and a calm feeling. But that notion that something lurks, right around the corner, has the hairs on the back of your neck sticking up. It takes a bit but a pattern does eventually emerge, desolate in chaos. Amidst the torturous screams, some light does emerge, but it is covered pretty quickly. The sound drops a bit about 2/3 of the way in, leading to some Dungeon Synth type elements. Then, those bleak winds return through the end. "Eternite" is just a bit shorter, coming in at over 16 minutes. Fleeting moments of hope in the beginning are soon dashed by raging vocal screams. Then, some strange and eerie sounds come into the mix, and you forget where you are. The simulated violin however is a train wreck. From there, it's a slow and long wind down through the end of the track.

"Destruction" closes the album. The winds are back, along with a set of droning keys. Then come the screams, over a bed of chaotic sounds. The sound then turns dark and drops off near the half-way mark. It returns with a desolation akin to you being the last person on earth...living your days in the dark, foraging for food and clean water, until you die. There is a long fade-out at the end, with some hopeful tones...the world might not be dead after all. This was a unique listening experience. The length of the tracks enabled you to become lost in the world of BLOSSE. Despite the chaos and tortured screams, there were elements of hope. But this is True Kvlt Black Metal for sure, and barely registers as music. It's all in the interpretation of the artist.
