BLOODY HAMMERS is an eclectic Metal band formed in 2010 in North Carolina, United States. This is a two person band that is centered around the creativity of Anders Manga. Straddling a number of genres, there are distinct tones from Heavy, Doom, Goth and Psychedelic Metal. With a flair for the odd in their videos, there is also a serious nod to Shock Rock here as well. Songs Of Unspeakable Terror, their fifth full-length album, was released on January 15, 2021 through Napalm Records.

The sings on this record are short with the longest being 3:37 and the shortest 2:04. Don't let the shorter song lengths fool you though. BLOODY HAMMERS can pack a lot of sound into a small space. Horror and the occult are the primary themes on the record and the lyrics fit the tones of the songs very well. The tunes are catchy and get into the brain like any good earworm will.

The record starts with "A Night To Dismember", a quick three minute tune with a nicely paced guitar riff and a solid rhythm. The chorus is catchy, even if a little gruesome. I can see the band onstage pausing to let the crowd scream the title, and them equally happy to do that. This song really gets to the heart of the band. This song is very indicative of what most songs do, draw you in and hold your attention with some seriously groove-filled tunes.

"Hands Of The Ripper" and "Witchfinder General" are both fun tunes with interesting tunings. The rhythms drive along at a nice pace. The riffs are dark and heavy, giving a feeling of doom. This is consistent with the overall feel of the record, so exactly what you expect to hear. The drums are not that complex, giving off a little of a punk vibe, but again, it fits in the song. The compositions are good, consistent, reliable.

"Not Of This Earth" starts with an intro that sounds like it's from an old movie or even radio program. The lyrics appear to describe something alien, though I'm unsure if it is extraterrestrial or more like a vampire/werewolf type of different.

Jumping down, we get to "Waking The Dead", a song with a faster intro that has a cool drop off for the first verse. With another chantable chorus, this another song that would be pretty popular live. Sounds like a song that could easily be accompanied by an animated film or old zombie movie to support the song visually.

The last song that I feel like I need to highlight is "Lucifer's Light", a slower song that burns with an intensity, yet doesn't really ever go beyond the initial quiet intro as far as the main body of the song goes. The keyboards are used to best effect on this song in my opinion. They provide an ambience that just keeps you on the edge of your seat. The tones are ethereal and haunting,

This is a really good example of a well-rounded album that is balanced and entertaining from start to finish. There are no offbeat tunes that throw the listener for a loop. It just cruises along and keeps you engaged. BLOODY HAMMERS is one of those bands that is probably awesome to see in person. This feels like a musical project, not just a record with some random songs. If they ever venture to the New England area, I would definitely go see the show. Might even scream a few of the lines along with them.
