Having been a fan of Urban Breed from his Tad Morose days, I knew I had to get this release instantly. However, I was unprepared for the Urban and Co. to rip off my ass and hand it to me. This album absolutely floors me. They definitely take their sound back to the old school Power Metal days. Not to mention the very tongue in cheek promo photos which are absolutely great. Who ever heard of a Power Metal band in corpse-paint?!?!
Not much to say here, but the band began forming in 2004. Then in 2005 Urban Breed left Tad Morose and a couple of months later he had joined Bloodbound. This album came out in December in Japan. Their first performance was filmed for a DVD and was a very private affair.
This album I have is bursting with hooks and catchy choruses. To describe them is quite easy for they are straightforward Power Metal, but just because their sound is so straightforward doesn't mean that the band lacks talent or uniqueness to their sound. The first track on the album, Behind The Moon, is an instant classic with its ultra catchy chorus and galloping lead. Actually if Bloodbound was a horse, it would definitely be one that loved to gallop because, holy crap, is there a lot of it on this freaking album. It just doesn't stop. Every song makes you bob your head to the beat and start tapping your feet. Another classic from this release is the third track on the album, Nosferatu, which starts kind of slow and then jumps into that patented Bloodbound gallop, only there is something slightly different about this one. I can't quite put my finger on what is different but whatever it is, it makes this track my favorite on the album. That and also the unbelievable chorus.
This release is definitely very solid from Urban's vocals to the ultra catchy guitars and lyrics. I predict that Bloodbound will achieve at least some level of success. I really don't see how they couldn't with the above attributes.
On the whole, this release may not be one of the best Metal records of the year, but for sure one of the Top 5 as far as Power Metal goes. Oh, did I mention that they wear corpse-paint? What the fuck?
