BLEED FROM WITHIN hailing from Glasgow, Scotland were formed in 2005. The Metalcore outfit released so far two EPs, one live album, and six full-length albums. “Zenith” is their seventh album, and it was mixed and mastered by Ermin Hamidovic (ARION; HAKEN; NABERUS). The album has a length of about 47 minutes, and it was released via German Metal specialists Nuclear Blast Records. Violent Nature” is a very strong opening track of the album. The guitar riffing is devastating and aggressive. The tempo switches between mid-tempo, down-tempo, and a few fast parts. The vocals are growls, which range between the medium and higher end of the guttural range. The melodies are grim, and it is intensified by a few atmospheric additions. The final part of the track is for all head-bangers and a fitting end to the track. “In Place Of Your Halo” starts at a measured tempo. The guitar riffing is punishing and includes a few oriental vibes during the verse parts. During the bridge and the chorus parts, the riffing is thunderous and there are a few deeper growls added to the track. There are atmospheric effects included and the track ends with an orientally inspired solo. The title track starts at mid-tempo and with aggressive guitar riffing. The verse parts are supported by a lot of double-bass drumming. The chorus parts slow down to a measured tempo and there is clean backing vocal support as well as added atmospheric patterns. The final part of “Zenith” is devoted to an extended break, where the atmospheric additions are intensified. “God Complex” is a head-hanger with thunderous guitar riffing, double-bass drumming, and catchy melodies. There are no tempo switches between verse and chorus parts with the latter ones being almost sing-alongs. The break slows down the tempo and it leads into a very contributing lead guitar solo, which has in parts some oriental vibes again. There is no surprise that “God Complex” was released as video, and the YouTube link is provided below.

A Hope In Hell” starts with atmospheric guitars and clean vocals. The melodies are dark and melancholic, in particular during the chorus parts. The vocals are a mixture of clean and growling vocals during the verse and chorus parts. The atmospheric nature of the track disappears during the choruses and the break. The break is relatively short but adds an additional layer to the track. The opening part of “Dying Sun” is driven by the drums, and slowly all other instruments join in to an extended introduction. The verse part starts after some time at a measured tempo and a sluggish rhythm with devastating guitar riffing. The melodies for the choruses are chilling with some melancholy present as well. The break provides a bit of atmosphere by the guitars and very powerful riffing towards the end as well. “Immortal Desire” starts with punishing guitar riffing and a choir, leading into the verse part. It is another track at a measured tempo with a lot of darkness in the melodies. It is a ballad-esque track, especially during the choruses. Brann Dallor (MASTODON) provides the additional clean vocals. After a few slower tracks, “Chained To Hate” provides a much-needed change in tempo and aggression. It is a track with fast parts and relentless double-bass thunderstorms, as well as parts at measured tempo with punishing riffs. It is a very aggressive track with the guitar riffing and the vocals, and there are a few lead guitar contributions during the first half of the track. The final part of the track is driven by a huge breakdown.

After a short introduction, “Known By No Name” is driven by a mid-tempo verse part led by the guitar riffing and a lot of double-bass drumming. It is a track of many twists and turns in tempo and rhythm, also of changes in the sound: direct and aggressive parts alternate with more complex and atmospheric parts. However, the track cannot quite keep up with most album songs. “Hands Of Sin” starts with direct and aggressive guitar riffing leading into a fast verse part. The chorus parts slow down once again to a measured tempo with darkness and melancholy in the melodies. Josh Middleton (SYLOSIS) provides the clean vocals for the choruses. The break is very powerful and driven by heavy guitar riffing at a head-banging rhythm. “Hands Of Sin” is all about the drastic changes in sound between verse and chorus parts. The album ends with “Edge Of Infinity” and it all starts with an extended acoustic guitar introduction leading into the verse part led by the guitars and the clean vocals at a slow tempo. The chorus parts are very powerful with grim and melancholic melodies and the growling vocals. It is the album ballad, and it concludes with the piano.

BLEED FROM WITHIN do that what BLEED FROM WITHIN are good at: a delivery of powerful Metalcore mixed with a characteristic atmospheric sound and dark melodies. There are many twists and complexity in the album sound, keeping it fresh and dynamic. “Zenith is driven by the guitar riffing and the relentless drumming, however, on top of it sits a vocalist, who keeps the songs expertly together. The album is well produced. Metalcore fans will be delighted with the new album of BLEED FROM WITHIN and hope for exciting live shows soon.
