Future Belongs To
BlackLight

From their record label’s website, “Future Belongs To” is a progressive metal conceptual album and a remarkable progressive rock album that showcases BLACKLIGHT’s solid and cohesive artistry. Rich with melancholy and calm tones, it creates a versatile vibe perfect for any situation. Drawing inspiration from iconic acts like OPETH, RUSH, TOOL, DEAD CAN DANCE, and fellow countrymen RIVERSIDE, the band weaves these influences into a unique and captivating sound that truly defines their identity. This album is worth discovering.” The album has 11 songs, and “Endless End” is first. There is a slow and gentle lead in, until the distortion from the guitar increases, and a heavier sound follows. From there, the song establishes a melancholy and dreamy sound with somber vocal harmonies.
“Rising Sun” has weighted edges, especially in the bass work, and the smooth vocals remind me of the band AVANDRA, although they are delivered with a robotic voice at times. “Between Dreams and Reality” has a pleasing combination of heavy riffs with ethereal vocals, and just enough Progressive elements to keep things interesting. Harsh vocals also rear their head, providing a dark sound to the music. I hear a bevy of influences in this song, including some of the bands they mentioned in their bio. “Ghost” features vocals that are melodic but also have a hard edge to them, and the music walks a fine line between Rock and Metal. The sound is quite catchy. “I Can’t Let Go” has an unexpected jovial bounce to it, reminding me of THE CURE. Many of the tones are still melancholy, but there is a real feeling to this song.
“Future Belongs To” has more smooth and pleasing mellow vocals combined with a harder edge in the music, and here is where you really get a glimpse of the band’s expansive capabilities. “Never Again” has a simulated electronic beat from the drums and guitars, and this song is fueled by a strong dose of energy. It brings an 80’s vibe to the album, which I love. “For a Hope” brings the album to a close, and it has a cleansing quality to it…almost like you weathered the storm on the album and came out clean on the other side. This was a fascinating album, in that the band used many different techniques in their compositions. Sometimes they made me feel sad, other times, energized, but each song had a unique feeling to it was catchy and memorable. Keep your eyes on this band, they are poised to make a big splash in the Progressive scene.
