Is it possible members from BEHEMOTH and DIMMU BORGIR to produce a modern stoner sound along with heavy Rock 'n' Roll tunes? I know this may sound a little bit strange but (un)fortunately is true. Mr. Darek Brzozowski from DIMMU BORGIR and Mr. Tomasz Wroblewski from BEHEMOTH show off between Polish BLACK RIVER's names and the 'play' button seems to be necessary to clear up the misty landscape. "Black 'n' Roll" is their second album and some obvious influences from VOLBEAT, MONSTER MAGNET and THE CULT in their well-shiny sound are really tempting.
Among the eleven tracks of the album, you'll definitely find some noticeable moments and you'll have fun if you like to spend your nights with good company and booze, but... nothing more complicate than this; compositions that you have already heard from other artists in the recent past, catchy guitar riffs and a pompous rusty voice are the main characteristics of "Black 'n' Roll" that's nothing more than the good effort of these guys who decided to lay aside the scary black and white corpse paint and put on a groovy 'bad-boy' attitude with intension to rock. My favorite "Isabel" and the groovy "Like A Bitch" are the two highlights that mark BLACK RIVER's second full-length, while the self titled track has this modern VOLBEAT aura and "Jumping Queenny Flash" is a sonic humoristic combination of THE SEX PISTOLS' "God Save The Queen" and THE ROLLING STONES' "Jumpin' Jack Flash".
Consequently, if you check "Black 'n' Roll" from the 'having-fun' part, you'll discover a dynamic release, full of the ingredients you need to have a good time through its 40 minutes; however, if you want something more than this, after the first three listening sessions, you'll definitely seek for something more original to listen to. I should not forget to mention the cover's muzzy picture of DANZIG's half-skull or something like that. Have mercy!
