Alt Som Finnes
Bizarrekult

"Alt Som Finnes" maintains the classic energy of old school. With its crazed riffs and blistering howls, there's no escape from the feverish intensity. Adding more post-metal ambience, "Avmakt" surges and seethes in a fight for control before losing power amidst melodies that fall then fade like dying pinpricks of light. As with BIZARREKULT's two previous retreats into the studio, "Alt Som Finnes" emerged from a deeply personal crisis. "Am I alone like this? No, we are many". It's a damning realization, but also a call for all of us to become something greater.
The album has eight songs, and "Hun" is first. Clean, tense, and somber tones open the song, and you can hear it slowly building. Harsh, aggressive tones take over from there, but it isn't total madness. In fact, each note is carefully calculated to leave you with a harrowing feeling. "Blikket Hennes" features desolate, thick bass guitars to go along with the sturdy riff and harsh vocals, and the drums keep a steady, fast, and aggressive pace. Much of the sound here stays in the shadows, and the darkness that is underneath your feet, buried deep in the earth. "Avmakt" is another song that moves with great haste. It almost sound like someone wound it up and threw it in front of you so it can do its thing. Again, many of the tones are deeply frightening.
"Hap" hears the aggressive tones diminish in favor of an expansive atmosphere. Clean, ethereal vocals allow for your imagination to run wild, but they don't last long, and in comes a powerful slow riff that will crush your soul. From there, it waxes and wanes between the two. "Drom" is more of a rager. The naked aggression comes straight at you like a rabid dog who hasn't eaten in weeks. Sweeter tones pop up from seemingly nowhere, and they offer a moment of hope for the listener. Totally unexpected…but absolutely gorgeous. "Verdens Verste" makes no bones about its dark aggressiveness, and the vocals rage. It's like a fire that someone put accelerant on that others are trying to extinguish, as melody seeps through the cracks.
"Aversjon" flips a toggle switch between tones of desperation and tones of hope, but the latter is fleeting. The vocals rage once again, dripping with emotions that vary from rage to regret, and some of the at times odd chord progressions reflect the band's attention to detail. "Tomhet" is the final song, and it makes good use of atmosphere once again. It extends that fine line between aggression and ambiance, and seems to make it stretch out forever. The album has a quality to it as if it was trying desperately to offer some hope, but with each turn, they sunk the dagger deeper into your heart. Either way you slice it, the level of emotional impact is high…almost devastating at times. You can feel each note in your stomach, like a rock that just keeps growing and there is no escape from the pain.
