Horizon
Bite The Bullet

Bite The Bullet originally were formed by singer & songwriter Mick Benton & drummer Graham Cowling who first met in 1984 when they joined the band Mothers Ruin.Mick Benton managed to secure a solo deal with Atlantic Records thanks to the legendary Greg Lake & he asked Cowling to play drums. In 1986 Bite The Bullet were formed with their debut album released in 1989 which was warmly received & gained some airplay. After a cancelled support slot with ELO,also the rise of Brit Pop the band disbanded.Benton and Cowling remained friends playing pubs & clubs. In 2019 after a reissue of the debut album, this ignited a flame in the duo, resulting in a new album "Black And White" in 2021.They continued writing new material which resulted in another three albums "End Of The Line" in 2022,"Rocky Road" in 2023 and "Looking In Paradise" in 2024.Now 2025 sees another new album "Horizon".
There is a African & Caribbean feel to the start of this album with the opening track "Shining Star",which blended with AOR roots gives a chilled start to this album. It certainly gave me that Toto feel & "Africa" style of track, with a clear vocal and some nice guitar tones & a massive keyboard presence."Horizon" musically has lots of different directions Bite The Bullet go on this album.Tracks like "Livin On Overdrive" and "Welcome To My World" sound so nostalgic great pop/rock and AOR sounds we all loved/still love, great rhythmic melodies.solid vocals, harmonies & guitars all delivered with such clarity with attention paid to the detail."Girl Of The Sea" with its guitar led intro has a classic blues rock sound.with a deep bass line stomping all the way through the track, with an atmospheric gospel backing vocals in the chorus.
"Dark Secrets" is a good old fashioned rock n' roll number, with the foot stomping melodies & Quo/ZZ Top style guitar riffs with a fantastic guitar duel off just over half way through. There is also a heartfelt mid tempo ballad which piano lead comes in the form of "Diamonds" which I found myself drawn to by the emotion pouring out of Mick Benton's sincere vocals, also the guitar touches make the ballad sound so complete."No Man Land" shows more diversity from Bite The Bullet with its reggae style opening fused with a bluesy rock tone which sounds so authentic, cool but also a breath of fresh air at the same time."Without Your Love" has some atmospheric key chords, with its melodic melodies and a more raw vocal give a tear jerking vibe of despair. The album closes with the title track "Horizon" which has fire, heart and power musically ,also vocally which is delivered with that British melodic rock sound of past & present, which flows through the heart of this band.
Bite The Bullet delivers another strong album, which has plenty of different musical direction, which is a joy to listen to.There is no weak tracks on "Horizon" they are all powerful well produced, superbly performed and delivered. An album of the highest quality which I urge people not to pass up on."Horizon" is released via Escape Music on 24th October.
